I love teaching and have a lifetime of experience at it. If you have a desire to learn, I can help you. As a tutor, I develop lessons that are substantive, challenging and geared to the individual's learning style. At the same time, I try to make my classes interesting and enjoyable. I have excellent writing skills, organizational skills and critical thinking skills, all of which enhance my performance as a teacher. I have been working with WyzAnt for the last four years and have successfully tutored students of all levels in Language Arts, Writing, Pre-Algebra, Math, ESL and Test Prep for the SATs, ACTs, and GREs. Professionally, I have worked as a museum educator for the past fifteen years and I have taught an advanced adult ESL class for the last ten. Before this, I taught Philosophy at the university level, Social Studies at the high school level, and I home-schooled my own children for a few years when they were in elementary school and in high school. I have also had experience working as an editor and doing market research for a textbook publishing company.

She understood the problems I have when I try to speak, write and read in English. Janice explained to me the correct pronunciation of the consonants and vowels.
Janice helped build my confidence in writing. I was able to strengthen my writing skills so could Complete my goals. Thanks, Janice :)
Janice has been a wonderful tutor for my student. He is trying to get ready for the SAT's, he is a senior who has struggled with this test. We are working with Janice on Math and Critical Reading. Janice is very patient, tries to make each session fun and works wonderfully with him. We are so lucky to have found Janice and we look forward to the next few months and watching our student understand and learn.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have recently familiarized myself with this test and have already been privately tutoring a few students. In addition, I have tutored many students in ACT and SAT prep via Wyzant. I have also had a lot of experience working with middle school students.
