Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am certified birth through 9th grade in general studies and in students with disabilities. At Carmel Academy I was the Upper School Learning Specialists and worked with many students who were diagnosed as ADD/ADHD.
Recently, I have spend six years tutoring and a student with ADD. I have worked with ADD/ADHD on academic subjects, as well as study skills and in class attending skills, techniques and strategies. I was a member of the child study team and created numerous student modification and accommodation forms based on psycho-educational testing. I am familiar with CSE & CPSE meetings as well as 504 and IEP's.

Aspergers

I am certified in general education and students with disabilities birth-9th grade. In my resource room I have worked with many Aspergers students and been part of their CSE/CST meetings. I have been in charge of their modifications and accommodations as well as insuring that educational plans are carried through across the curriculum. I have privately tutor several Aspergers students over the years, and have volunteered at schools working with students on the Autism Spectrum. I have also continued my professional development in regards to students with disabilities and continue to stay in touch and advise students with Aspergers now adding colleges like Summit.

Common Core

I have experience teaching students birth-9th grade lessons aligned with the state common core standards. My continuing education courses and professional development have also allowed me to continue practicing common core in depth so that it can be infused into lessons and allow for student success and identification of key common core teaching and learning components.

Dyslexia

Regents

As certified teacher, I have worked with students for over ten years on Regents exam prep in both 8th and 9th grade. For over 10 years I have privately worked with students preparing them for the Course 1 Math Regents, Global Studies Regents and English Regents. I have offered various workshops to support students taking the regents exam through small group and 1:1 instruction. I am familiar with the regents format, grading systems and subject matter listed above.

Special Needs

I was the Upper School Learning Specialist at Carmel Academy for six years until my maternity leave and am certified to work with students with disabilities/special needs. I have privately tutored special needs students for over 10 years and have volunteered as a mentor for new teachers working with students who have special needs. I was a member of the CST/CSE/CPSE and have experience with academic testing, 504's and the IEP process.
