I am a National Board Certified science teacher with a deep passion for science and working with students. I have taught science for nine years. Beyond the classroom, I provided students with real world experiences through research and science competitions. My unique experiences come from conducting scientific research in pharmaceutical industries. Even as an undergraduate student, I was selected by my professor to teach the lab section of a biology course.
I focus on teaching students to think scientifically to solve problems and provide strategies to help them succeed. I am aware of brain based learning and the multiple intelligences of diverse students. My goal is for students to really understand the content in a meaningful manner. I have had students who did not like science earlier, but leave with a new appreciation for it as I show them how valuable science knowledge is to our daily lives.
Students face many challenges as they are expected to learn the common core standards that have been implemented by most states. I can break down these difficult objectives into simple goals in a language that students can achieve. This is evident from the high rate of proficiency of my students on state exams. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
