About Adam

I am currently employed as a full-time art teacher and computers teacher at a school in the Rochester City School District. I have both a Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Buffalo (UB), as well as a Bachelor's in Fine Art from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Currently, I am looking to tutor students in my areas of expertise (Visual Art, Art History) as well as core subjects that I have an affinity and talent for (Math including Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1, and Earth Science and basic Biology and Chemistry). Additionally, I can tutor in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, as well as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

My students and my colleagues frequently compliment me on my patience, sense of humor, and creative approaches to teaching and learning. I'm always eager to pull on a student's interests in order to get them interested in learning, and I try to be as flexible as possible with both my style and scheduling to accommodate a student's learning abilities and parent schedules.

I am also very tech-savvy, and I am able to do sessions online as well.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

I have over a decade of experience using Adobe Photoshop and can readily teach anyone the basics, and even some intermediate and advanced techniques. If you have never used Adobe before, it can be intimidating, but I can help you become more comfortable with the software and begin creating and editing in no time.

Algebra 1

Math and science have always come easily to me, and I have had to teach math at several levels on occasion at my current place of employment. This includes teaching classes to special education students almost exclusively.

I can assist with homework, catching up with school work, and helping students to get a better grasp on the foundations of Pre-algebra and Algebra. While it is best to work from the student's current textbooks, I can bring extra practice work if I know it will be needed ahead of time.

Art History

I am familiar with, and have my own reference materials on, a variety of artistic movements and specific artists spanning from ancient works to more recognizable modern art. I can assist with test prep, writing papers, doing research, and learning about particular movements and artists as well.

Drawing

I have over 16 years of actively drawing including 4 years in RIT's illustration program, participation in RIT senior gallery exhibit, a winning entry in the Guns of Icarus Online costume design competition. I can teach all but the most advanced and professional artists.

Elementary Math

Math and science have always come easily to me, and I have had to teach math at several levels on occasion at my current place of employment. This includes teaching classes to special education students almost exclusively.

I can assist with homework, catching up with school work, and helping students to get a better grasp on the foundations of basic arithmetic. I have taught in elementary environments as well. While it is best to work from the student's current textbooks, I can bring extra practice work if I know it will be needed ahead of time.

Geometry

NYS Professional Teacher Certification, 3 years tutoring math and science for middle school and grades 9/10.

Graphic Design

I have worked as an artist and teacher for the past ten years in a variety of visual arts objects including Illustration, Graphic Design, Studio Art, and Digital Art. I have written curriculum for, and taught classes in, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Graphic Design, and more. I've also worked as a freelance artist doing logos and character designs.

Painting

I can provide instruction in the basics of color and color theory, differences between types of paint an painting tools, painting exercises, and can introduce students to mid-level techniques.

I can also assist as a critical eye to assist in production and critique of personal and academic projects.

Students MUST be able to obtain their own supplies.

Prealgebra

Math and science have always come easily to me, and I have had to teach math at several levels on occasion at my current place of employment. This includes teaching classes to special education students almost exclusively.
I can assist with homework, catching up with school work, and helping students to get a better grasp on the foundations of pre-algebra. While it is best to work from the student's current textbooks, I can bring extra practice work if I know it will be needed ahead of time.

SAT Math

In addition to helping students decode and understand the actual questions, and catch up with or refresh any mathematical skills, I am able to help point out ways the test will try to trick students and how they can use game theory and calculated guessing to improve their scores.
