I'm an invested tutor because I've dedicated my life to the study of literature and language. English isn't just the study of dusty old classics (though those are great!); it's about learning how to see the world from many points of view and about perfecting our own communication skills so that we can best articulate our own perspective. The more honed and specific our written voice is, the better we are able to speak up for what we want and show off what we have to offer.
As a college instructor with extensive experience teaching writing and literature, I have helped hundreds of students advance their writing and critical thinking skills. I emphasize the use of effective and transferable processes for approaching the intellectual work of reading and writing. In our tutorials, we will establish a series of critical questions and step projects to work through that not only help students produce a successful essay or pass the test, but give them confidence to approach new assignments using the same model.
I have a Ph.D. in English and ten years of teaching experience at the college level. I am a professor at a local college where I teach everything from basic writing and introductory literature courses to advanced literature and composition. I've also worked in a variety of college tutoring centers and am well practiced at one-on-one instruction.
Working with students entering, enrolled in, and departing college means I also have lots of experience helping students craft personal statements and writing samples for degree programs, scholarships, jobs, etc., and I'd love to work with tutees on this work as well.
Please contact me with any questions about tutorials. I'll be happy to hear more about what you're looking for in tutorials or give you more information about how we might approach it. Looking forward to working with you! I'm an invested tutor because I've dedicated my life to the study of literature and language. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
