My goal is to share with students my lifelong love and knowledge of both the Spanish language and Music. I have many years of experience honing the art of teaching; the excellent reviews by students here on the Wyzant site will give prospective students a picture of the type of teacher I purpose to be.

As a young child, I was introduced to the Spanish language by my mother. In high school, she was also my classroom teacher at a private, college preparatory school. My first undergraduate degree was a B.A. in Spanish, and during my junior year abroad in Spain, I acquired near-native fluency. I have been able to maintain the fluency as a teacher/tutor and in other work and social contexts.

Music has also always been an important part of my life. I began taking piano lessons at an early age, taught myself to play the guitar, and always sang, alone or in groups. As an adult, I returned to school to earn a second bachelor's degree and master's degree in Music. In addition to excellent training and experiences, the curricula included courses on teaching methods and techniques. My musical education prepared me to teach all kinds of people.

Throughout my career, I have taught both Spanish and Music to individuals and groups of all ages and levels of abilities in a variety of settings: as private tutor, both in person and on line; middle and high school classes; adult community school (enrichment classes); church, school and community choirs; and college courses.

For the struggling students, my friendly, positive approach encourages them to believe that they can "crack the code" and succeed; I equip them with the tools to improve their skills, confidence and grades through the use of materials which supplement the school textbooks and curricula. It is also a joy to teach adult students who are motivated to learn a new skill, whether for professional use, such as medical Spanish, or for personal enrichment.

Spanish

Having tutored all levels of Spanish for many years, I am very familiar with the points of grammar that give students the most trouble. I help students to build their confidence in learning the language by tapping into their learning styles and by my personable and encouraging approach. It is also a joy to share my love of the language with other adults for their personal or professional needs. My bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature included a year abroad in Madrid, Spain, where I developed near-native fluency that I have maintained throughout my life.

Music Theory

Elizabeth did a fantastic job at teaching me the theory of music I decided what the heck to take an online music course at my community college. What I didn't realize how difficult it was going to be for me to learn it all by myself and music has always been a passionate thing and I didn’t want it to be a waste of a class if I didn't actually learn everything there is to know. But she was just amazing breaking down every part for me and making sure I understood everything before we continued on with such a bubbly personality without a doubt Elizabeth will be a part of this Music theory journey with me as I've already learned so much from just out first session.

My son's experience with Elizabeth

My son has always been an average Spanish student, but he improved exponentially with the help of Elizabeth. She has been an integral part of my son's Spanish development, particularly in terms of writing and reading comprehension, during my son's junior year. She is consistently reliable through her online sessions, and the steady improvement in my son's Spanish abilities landed him a solid A over the course of the year.

Thank you! It is a pleasure to work with such a hard-working, motivated student. The writing assignments were challenging were at a very advanced level for a high school class, so I am glad to hear that he has been so successful. I look forward to continuing our work together next year!

Improved grades!!!

We want to thank Elizabeth for helping Perri succeed in Spanish. Her overall grade currently in June is an 82, up from a 69 overall average at the beginning of April, 2019. We are very proud of the hard work that went into raising her grade. The online tutoring with Elizabeth was convenient and flexible, so easy! Our daughter really enjoyed the on line sessions, it was easy for to keep track of her lessons and her work. We highly recommend her and the online tutoring!!!

Excellent Spanish Tutor

Just the first lesson and my son feel confident about the concepts that he learns from her! We strongly recommended Mrs. Elizabeth N. as a Spanish tutor. We are blessed!

Tutor responded:

It has been a fascinating experience to work with Diego, who, as a native speaker of Spanish, speaks the language extremely well! When he entered high school, he was placed in the equivalent of Spanish 3. However, since he has been educated in the USA, he had never formally studied Spanish grammar or writing mechanics, so he was doing poorly in class. I told Diego, who is a musician, that he is like a great jazz artist who can play and improvise anything but doesn't read a note of music. It's an entirely different way of approaching the language. I am happy to know that his grades have vastly improved, so much so that he has been recommended for AP Spanish next year!

Great Spanish session with Elizabeth

I had a Great Spanish session with Elizabeth. She was easy to work with and very helpful for my upcoming test! I highly recommend her as an excellent tutor. We went over the lesson and she clarified my questions in preparation for my test.

Patient Tutor

What she taught me really helped me understand it more. I would recommend her to other people like me, having no experience with Spanish. This is my first time having an online tutor and I would no doubt choose online over anything else.

Even after just a couple of sessions, it is so wonderful to see this student's confidence begin to soar!

Terrific Tutor

Elizabeth knows her area, and provided helpful pointers and guidance. She explained things in a straightforward way, making clear what the teacher failed to fully explain. We'll definitely call on her again for this demanding college Spanish course!

Having taught college classes, I know how intensive they can be. I am glad to be here to help!

Great teacher, very accommodating... And online tutoring in general is just very efficient!

We have been working with Elizabeth the last two months for my 12 year old. She has been very accommodating. She was able connect very well with him and tailor her content and delivery to his needs. My son enjoyed the time and wants to continue working with her. Also getting tutoring online is just very efficient and effective. The online tool works like a charm!

This student had the wonderful opportunity to study Spanish in Barcelona for a few weeks last summer. I am so happy that he continues to want to learn and be challenged beyond what he is learning in Spanish class at school.
