Hello! :)

So a little bit about me: I graduated from high school with top honors and earned a full tuition scholarship to my college. I was part of my college's Honors Program, where I studied abroad at Oxford University and graduated valedictorian of my class. I majored in Psychology and had two minors- Business Administration and Economics. I completed my Masters Degree from New York Medical College in Speech Language Pathology, and I work with students just like you every day.

Currently, I work in a elementary charter school in New York City with PreK- 4th grade students. As a speech-language pathologist in a school, I work on the following:

-Reading comprehension
-Reading strategies (aids with dyslexia as well; I am trained in Lively Letters)
-Phonemic/phonological awareness (how to blend sounds in words and break them up- helps with reading and writing as well)
-Social skills (turn taking, speaking in conversations)
-Auditory processing
-Listening comprehension
-Vocabulary
-Writing (forming paragraphs, organizing writing, strategies)
-Grammar/how to formulate sentences

and much more!

Many of my students have had reduced services and/or have been discharged from speech/language services due to my work with them!

In previous positions, I have also had the opportunity to work with middle school and high school students, as well as adults. I am very computer literate and am able to help with all you Microsoft Office needs- for example, if you need to learn how to prepare something in Word or PowerPoint- as well as general computer skills (how to send e-mail, etc.).

Other skills:

Exam wise, I studied for the PSAT, SAT, GRE and PRAXIS- and passed all with high scores. I also have extensive experience with tutoring Italian- I grew up speaking Italian at home and studied it every year of high school and into college.

I enjoy helping others, so please feel free to contact me if this sounds of interest to you! Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Dyslexia

I am currently a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) working in a elementary school setting. One area that we treat is dyslexia. In treating dyslexia, speech language pathologists assess the student's ability to hear and "play with" sounds in words (phonological awareness skills), have the child put together syllables and sounds to make a word, see if the child can break up a word into its syllables and/or sounds (e.g., "cat" has one syllable but three sounds c-a-t) and assess the child's phonological memory by having him or her repeat strings of words, numbers, letters, and sounds of increasing length.
