Hi, my name is Paige! I graduated from Bucknell University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in education and philosophy. While I was at Bucknell, I spent many hours in local elementary schools volunteering to run after school programs. I also tutored several different 2nd - 6th grade students on a weekly basis. After graduation, I got a job as an assistant teacher at an all boys school in Greenwich. I spent two years there teaching both Pre-K and 3rd grade. At the same time, I earned my master's degree in elementary education from Manhattanville College. I have a New York State certification for grades 1-6 and am a first grade teacher here in the city and have experience teaching all subjects in an elementary school setting.
I enjoy working with students in a one-on-one setting because I find that having the chance to get to know a student and understand how they think and learn is the key to success. Every child learns in different ways and at a different pace and it is important to understand and celebrate those differences. I know a number of strategies and ways to approach varying topics and I will find a strategy that works for everyone. I aim to foster a love for learning in all of my students and I believe part of that comes from giving them confidence to know that they can succeed no matter how frustrating a task may appear to be at first. I use the strategies I have learned through my years in graduate school and the classroom to make learning exciting and engaging. I make my lesson plans fun and creative, giving the students plenty of time for hands-on learning and experience. My strategies will be geared toward each individual child and cater specifically to their needs.
I have taught math at the elementary school level for a number of years and have used a variety of curriculums including, Everyday Mathematics, TERC investigations, and Singapore Math. I am also very familiar with the Common Core Curriculum and have many strategies and games to teach a variety of topics.
