About Colette

Currently, I attend graduate school for audiology, which is a branch of medical science that aims to understand how and why we hear the way we do. Through this field, I have learned acoustics - a discipline in physics that requires a background in mathematics in order to fully comprehend its components. I have given lectures on audiology and other health-related information for national conferences that earned attention from major organizations.

My tutoring experience comes from working as a speech-language pathology assistant where one-on-one training/teaching was provided to children who struggled with reading and writing, mathematics, speech articulation, and/ or pragmatics. This job opened my eyes to how rewarding this type of work is. Without some form of help, I think we would all fail. Tutoring provides students with the tools they need to succeed and I am honored to provide this service.

For those of you seeking to learn a new language, I am able to teach sign-language at the beginning, intermediate and intermediate-advanced levels. I grew up with this language because of my own hearing impairment which was diagnosed at 17 months of age. What better way to learn a new language than from someone who grew up using it?

To ensure students have a quiet place to learn and study, I am willing to make reasonable accommodations. Most sessions are held in the students home, but I offer online lessons as well.
I try to be flexible with my time. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I offer make-up classes.

I look forward to meeting you and am excited to be provided with the opportunity to help you succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

First and foremost, I am a successful hearing impaired individual who is already on the path to assisting others with hearing loss by attending graduate school for audiology. Secondly, my undergraduate degree is in Communication Disorders and Deaf education, which qualifies me to assist others with various aspects of their hearing impairment.

Microsoft Word

I have built numerous presentations through PowerPoint, written research articles using Word and ran basic statistics using Excel. I am familiar with all three programs and am able to help you feel comfortable using any of these products. All it will take is a little bit of patience and after working with me, you will begin to feel much more comfortable using these products.

Sign Language

I started learning American Sign-Language at age six and continued learning, using and refining the language throughout elementary, middle and high school. I have tutored a high school student in ASL and helped teach a basic sign-language course in college. I am qualified to tutor basic, intermediate and intermediate-advanced courses. It is my recommendation that if you are ready to master this language, than you should immerse yourself in the Deaf culture and interact with Deaf people so that true mastery is achieved.
