I like to have my students try problems on their own first. If they get it right I move on. If they get it wrong I see if there is a certain concept they don't understand and try to explain it to them. Then when I think they understand the concept I have them try to solve a similar problem. At the end of the session I would go back to a type of problem they didn't understand at the beginning and see if they get it now.
