About Linda

Hello. I am an elementary teacher in my local public school district. Since I started working in the school district, I have worked in self-contained special education classrooms, inclusion classrooms, resource room and general education classrooms. I have experience with the special needs population, particularly the autistic spectrum and ADHD students.

My own child is on the autistic spectrum so I have first hand knowledge of this type of child. I am familiar with the IEP, CPSE and CSE procedures.

I am currently tutoring two students at their home. One is a 4th grade girl who has ADHD. The other student is her brother who is in 1st grade. Both students are working on decoding, reading strategies and vocabulary. I work with all subjects at the elementary level Pre-K through grade 5. I have added two middle school students to my roster for writing skills tutoring.

I teach through a multi-sensory approach since everyone learns differently. I offer both in home and online tutoring for students. If you are interested in online tutoring, there are many benefits to it. With the busy lives of my families today, they find online tutoring very convenient. Scheduling sessions is the biggest benefit. Some families have many children that have to be in different places at the same time. With online tutoring, it can be done anywhere.

Before the first lesson, I offer a free reading assessment (which is a $75.00 value). Yes. I said free. After the assessment, I sit down with you and discuss the results. You know your child better than anyone else. Together we decide on a learning plan that would best fit your child. At that point, we begin sessions working on what we decided the learning concepts should be.

There is a money back guarantee for the first session. If you don't feel that you got what you paid for, you will not be charged for the session and you are under no obligation to continue tutoring services. If however, you decide to move forward with sessions, I will give you the information that you need regarding procedures for payment, policies and cancellations. I would love the opportunity to work with your child so they will feel successful in school and not be as frustrated. Please contact me so we can discuss your child's needs. Thanks.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have been working with a girl with ADHD for two years. Her reading has improved and her writing is progressing. We have also been working on spelling. I would like to request being certified to tutor students with ADHD.

Chess

I have played the game of chess since I was a kid. I would be able to teach about each piece and their point value. Each chess piece has a certain way that it is allowed to move. I would be suitable for teaching the basics of chess.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher who has been teaching for 15 years. During my career, I have taught in a wide variety of classrooms such as general education, inclusion classrooms, resource room, and self-contained special education classrooms. I have taught Pre-k through grade 5. I teach all of the elementary subjects: ELA, math, science, social studies, reading support and reading comprehension, spelling, and writing. I use a multisensory approach to each subject and I use many different methods to make learning fun and meaningful to every student. I would love the opportunity to speak with you and your student so we can determine what is the most effective approach. Contact me today to discuss your needs. I am available in the summer as well.

Phonics

I have been helping students in reading for several years. Specifically, I am taking a reading interventionist program that focuses on phonics and reading strategies. I am an elementary teacher in my local public school district. Since I started working in the school district, I have worked in self-contained special education classrooms, inclusion classrooms, resource room and general education classrooms.

Reading

I am a certified teacher who has used the Wilson Reading Program for beginning readers. It is a multisensory approach that is based on the Orton Gillingham reading program. Phonics are used throughout the program and it has been very successful for beginning readers.

Sewing

I was in 4-H as a girl for several years. I won awards for baking, cooking and sewing. I made my 8th grade graduation gown. I certainly could teach sewing to someone.

Writing

Tutor reading (including comprehension) and writing skills as well as vocabulary.
