I am a conscientious tutor and enthusiastic advocate of the French language and culture, as I am French myself and spent 42 years there before I moved to the US in 2005. I got a certification of ESC Region 10 substitute training from the state of Texas before I relocated to Long Island in 2010. Besides, I possess a wide variety of French books and magazines for K-12 students, and more importantly have extensive experience in kids’ educational programs.
-Thanks to my doctorate level, I am well organized, and able to search for the right tools and material to develop targeted projects in order to help students with their needs. I demonstrated excellent communication skills and planning expertise in developing educational programs for children creating appealing (and awarded) posters and craft activities for international nights in primary and secondary schools in the US, even creating an annual treasure hunt contest in between schools in partnership with the museums of the town for kids in 4th and 5th grades in France.
- Tutoring kids is thus a natural disposition I already practiced with different children. I helped young Americans to keep up with their French experience abroad, and prepared another one enter back the French school system after a few years in the US.
-As a volunteer judge for the American Association of Teachers of French for three years, I am also aware of French contests contents. I can help with guided speaking, prose and poetry reading exercises which improve pronunciation for middle school and high school students. Besides, I can also provide help with French SAT subject training and AP French exams.
I will dedicate myself to create the right educational material necessary to transmit the learning of the French language and culture in an enjoyable and caring way. Learning a foreign language is an exciting challenge, and I wish it to be an enriching discovery of new horizons, new culture and people for each student as well.

Sylvie taught French to my three children for over two years between September 2012 and October 2014. Her Ph.D. degree was a key reason in initially selecting her. I thought I would get someone who understands the language and culture to the full extent. What I had hoped for I did get, and even more. Sylvie is nice and has this exceptional ability to get children interested in French and to develop passion for learning French in them. Words fail to describe her great ability! If French teachers were flowers, Sylvie would be the rose. She is the very best language teacher among all language teachers that I have seen in my life so far, and may stay that way. Very highly recommended.
Sylvie is an excellent French tutor, my daughter is very comfortable and able to learn from the teacher and retain the knowledge.
My first session with Sylvie was excellent and surpassed what I had hoped for. She intuited exactly what I need in order to improve my French communication skills and came to our session exceptionally prepared. I am very excited about the lessons that will transpire and eagerly look forward to our next session.
Sylvie has been exactly what I had hoped for in a tutor. She is clear in helping me to understand the things I am confused about or unsure of, she is very patient and encouraging, and she is great at keeping it fun! It has been a wonderful experience thus far.
Today was another excellent lesson as all have been! Sylvie's knowledge, enthusiasm, dedication and compassion to her profession make every aspect of learning positive and rewarding. She is incredibly supportive and engaging, she draws you in to the french culture and best of all, helps you to make connections on many levels. My experience so far exceeds what I thought this learning process would be about. Thanks so much Sylvie!

Kids and adult students in our family are looking forward to next week lesson. Sylvie seems to have a perfect balance between serious linguistic approach and light fun conversational periods in her lessons. She can hear and correct the sounds that we all struggling with in the best non offensive way and encourage gently. I would recommend Sylvie for both kids and adults.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
