About Kenneth

I believe that one never stops learning, and that no matter how much you know about a subject there is always a new idea or concept you've never heard before that someone can teach you. So I look at every situation with the idea that I might learn something to make me a better musician and person. The best way to really understand something is to teach it to someone else. Being a musician, I am always looking to get better. So I love teaching people new things not only to help them better understand whatever it may be, but also so I can better understand it myself and be able to teach it better in the future.

Music has always been a big part of my life, and I wish that everyone was required to learn more about music and the arts in general. I feel that music gives everyone a voice that maybe they didn't know they had, and is able to speak in ways that words can't. But as it is such a powerful idea and activity, I understand why music theory and the different aspects of music can be hard to understand. Luckily I have always found music interesting and it seems to just come naturally to me.

My high school career included many accomplishments in music for my Junior and Senior years. Most notably I scored a 5 out of 5 on the Music Theory AP Exam, scored a perfect score of 100 on both a NYSSMA Level 6 solo and a Level 6 All State solo and was accepted into many performing ensembles including: The Suffolk All County orchestra and All County Jazz Band, The Nassau-Suffolk Wind Symphony, and the New York All State Symphonic Band.

Although my college career has been short so far, I have still had many accomplishments here as well. After taking the placement tests for my college music classes, I was placed 2 years ahead of my class in Solfege (ear training) and 1 year ahead of my class in Music Theory. My most recent accomplishment was being accepted into Carolina Crown, which is a world class Drum and Bugle Corps that performs and competes during the summer time. This past summer we placed second at the Drum Corps International World Championships.

I look forward to meeting you, and I can't wait to help you understand and love music!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Ever since 9th grade I have been a year ahead of my class in mathematics. By my senior year of high school I was already taking advanced placement college level calculus. Recently I needed to teach my younger cousin who has Down syndrome how to play trumpet, and was successful. So I feel that if I can teach him an advanced skill like playing an instrument, I should be able to teach anyone.

Elementary Math

By my senior year of high school I was already taking advanced placement college level calculus. I am very good with kids and had to babysit my two younger cousins, one of which has Down syndrome, for most of a summer. Recently I needed to teach my younger cousin who has Down syndrome how to play trumpet, and was successful. So I feel that if I can teach him an advanced skill like playing an instrument, I should be able to teach anyone.

Music Theory

After taking 2 years of Music theory in High School, I took the AP Music Theory exam and received a 5 which is the highest possible score. When taking placement tests for college I was placed a year ahead of my class in Music Theory. Being at the top of my Music Theory class, along with being a year younger than most people in the class, I have been sought after by some of my classmates and friends from back home to help them with preparing for tests and/or helping them complete their homework.

Trumpet

I have been playing trumpet for the past 10 years and have been taking private lessons for the past 5 years. I have been accepted into the Suffolk All County Orchestra and All County Jazz band, the Nassau-Suffolk Wind Symphony, and the New York All State Symphonic Band. I am currently in my Sophomore year at SUNY Purchase studying trumpet performance.
