Greetings parents and students,

I graduated with an AS in Science with an emphasis in Physics and Education from SUNY Orange, a BS in Geology from SUNY New Paltz, and am currently working on my Masters Degree. My research as an undergraduate involved analyzing the geometry of geologic structures, along with the chemistry of the rocks, in order to determine inferred depositional environments. With my knowledge and experience, I help students learn and master the sciences of the physical world. I tutor Geology, Physics, Astronomy, and Chemistry. Aptitude in advanced mathematics is a requirement in my field, which is why I include math tutoring in my services. Generally when tutoring I recognize what each students individual needs are and I help them practice effective studying methods based on various educational-psychological studies, as well my own experiences as a successful college graduate. After first meeting a student I quickly assess what prerequisite knowledge they may be lacking, so that I can integrate the prerequisite instruction into learning the current material efficiently. I take great pride in getting to know my students and their interests, as this enables me to teach them more effectively. After being tutored by me, I assure that not only will each student be more competent in the subject they are troubled with, but they will have learned valuable studying and learning techniques that will help them in the future along with the confidence they need to be successful.
I believe in a fun yet hard-working learning environment based on the individual needs of each student, which is why I have been one of the most successful tutors in my region.

GIS

GIS

Throughout my undergraduate research, and NYSDEC professional work, I have hundreds of hours of experience working with GIS. I have taken formal collegiate course on the theory and implementation of GIS in the environmental sciences. More so, I have used GIS professionally to map out aquifers, complete urban planning, and to complete environmental risk assessments to natural resources. GIS is an invaluable to geographers, geologists and other environmental scientists alike, and has saved me a lot of time with my mapping! I can teach you the theory behind GIS, and how to use it in a professional setting.

Elementary Education

Common Core,

Common Core

Since the New Common Core curriculum was introduced, I have studied the new Common Core methodology of problem solving extensively, to assure my students get the full benefit of my services. I have tutored over 600 hours of Common Core alone. The methods of Common Core prove challenging for many students, so they need quality one on one instruction by someone who understands why it is important to learn these concepts. Common core teaches the students a critical thinking approach to problem solving, which is more applicable in the real world.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have an AS in Science with a concentration in Physics and a BS in Geology. In my degree path I have taken up to college level Calculus, as Physics and Geology are heavily math dependent. Due to the requirements of my degree, I had to be proficient in college level mathematics and have tutored over 900 hours of algebra alone. I find algebra to be the most essential tool not only in science, but in everyday life. I often find myself asking, at the most basic level, "Why not know how to solve basic equations by the 5th grade?" as most students already have the tools to do so. All it takes is "self reflection," the term i use to describe math, and an effective instructor/tutor to help them.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have an AS in Science with a concentration in Physics and a BS in Geology. In my degree path I have taken up to college level Calculus, as Physics and Geology are heavily math dependent. In my pursuit for my degree in physics, my skills in trigonometry was a vital skill and is used in calculating all things in the universe. Trigonometry is well within my ability to tutor. "Trigonometry is a sine of the times" - Author Unknown Many take for granted how much easier a solid background in trigonometry makes everyday life. You may respond, "How much easier?'' My response would simply be that you already use it with out knowing. Every time you make an estimate on whether your car would fit through an underpass when driving, you are using trigonometry. Whenever you decide to cut straight through a field to save time as opposed to walking around it on the sidewalk, you are using trigonometry. Shooting the basketball perfectly into the net is simply Trigonometry. Many of these concepts are already wired into logical thought, it just takes a bit of ''self reflection'' (my phrase for the study of Mathematics) and an enthusiastic instructor to bring it out onto paper.

Science

Astronomy,

Astronomy

I have an AS degree in Science with a concentration in Physics, and a Bachelor's degree in Geology. While studying physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics were a major focus for me. I have also been an amateur astronomer for 10 years. Astronomy is merely the application of Physics and Trigonometry to interpret the behavior of objects too far to study directly. There is nothing more fascinating than space and the mechanics that drive all we see when we look up in the sky. I like to imagine Galileo thinking the same thing when he shook the paradigm by doing nothing more than seeing Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto through a crude lens.
Geology,

Geology

Geology is a study of history; the history of what is below us interpreted by Geometry and Chemistry. World historians find what they seek in doctrines and writs; while I find my evidence by going back into the archives of the bentonite laden Devonian siltstone. Conflicts during the history of the Earth do not end with treaties; they end with the entire island arcs being thrust atop a continent, while Cyclothems prove the Sloss Cycles, which tell us the sea has invaded and retreated from North America six times since the Cambrian. I help students with lower and upper level geology courses. Much of my research has been in the Sequence Stratigraphy and Sedimentary Petrology of The Eastern North American Margin during the Middle Paleozoic, as well as its metamorphic petrology, with my most recent research resulting in two publications and presentations at the Geological Society of America's September 2016 and March 2017 conferences. Some of my other research has been on the igneous/metamorphic petrology of the Grenville Orogeny, specifically by studying Storm King Mountain Granitic Gneiss and Amphibolite. I also help students with Mineralogy and Crystallography.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I graduated with an AS degree in Science with a concentration in Physics and a BS in Geology. The basic Components of Physical Science is Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy. I have had great success in taking all of these subjects in college for both of my degree paths and have been an amateur astronomer for over 10 years. I currently tutor Earth Science and physics and so Physical science would be an area of expertise for me.

Helpful SAT Prep

Micheal is tutoring our son for the SAT. He tutored our son in the math and science regents and all went well. I don't think we would have had the successful outcome without Michael's help.

Vanessa, 24 lessons with Michael

Great math teacher

Helped break down every step and very patient. Showed me different way to solve problems. Michael was very good with his rates per hour also. Michael also has a set plan for his student depending on the person level of math

Professional and Consistent

Micheal is very professional and consistent, he demonstrates that he is very well verse in multiple areas that are seemingly impressive. So far so good. He's even showing my daughter how her answer's maybe right but if a teacher is being overly anal of some problems this can become difficult for the student. Micheal was able to pull up my daughter's spirit and let her know that she was right but you may have to be specific at times. We are off to a great start and we look forward to hopefully have him tutor her in Science as well.

Great Tutor

Michael D. has been tutoring my 15 year old son for the last couple of weeks. His patience and teaching techniques are proving to be very effective with him. Since Michael began tutoring him he has shown great improvement and is less stressed when going to class.

Damaris, 31 lessons with Michael

Knowledgeable and extremely patient.

Michael is really helping my daughter understand algebra. He is breaking it down for in a method she can understand. He is extremely patient with her and is teaching her at her own pace.

1st Session

Michael started by getting an understanding of my son's needs/capabilities by working on fractions. He was very clear and worked well with my son, who liked Michael very much. This was just the very first session, so I'm looking forward to see how things progress.

Karen, 56 lessons with Michael

Extremely Patient

Michael tutors my 11 year old twins. My son can be very unfocused at times, but Michael is extremely patient with him and he has a good system to get through to him. It definitely works because he has soared with Michael's tutoring. Both of my kids are doing well in school but Michael has enhanced it. their grade point average has increased since working with Michael and he is such a nice person the kids love him.
