About Sara

Bio

Every student is capable of understanding, synthesizing, and applying mathematical concepts. Often, the methods by which math is taught in schools aren't incompatible with students’ learning styles. I earned a 35 on the ACT and was a National Merit Scholar. I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a major in mathematics, specializing in pure mathematics, with minors in medical anthropology and Spanish. Every student is capable of understanding, synthesizing, and applying mathematical concepts. Often, the methods by which math is taught in schools aren't incompatible with students’ learning styles. I earned a 35 on the ACT and was a National Merit Scholar. I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a major in mathematics, specializing in pure mathematics, with minors in medical anthropology and Spanish. During my undergraduate career, I tutored students in trigonometry, college algebra, and calculus courses. At Vanderbilt, I completed courses in multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, number theory, abstract algebra, discrete mathematics, codebreaking, physics II, astrophysics, and organic chemistry. The concepts in these classes did not come easily to me at first. I learned over time, through trial and error, how to translate what is taught into a form that I could digest, learn, and master. I published writing in two student newspapers and served as a contributor for an online publication.

Through my tutoring experience, I have learned that all students are unique, and each individual excels through a personalized style of teaching. For ACT tutoring, I limit the number of students I tutor at any given time. By request, I send students a summary of the content we covered in the form of a PDF with written solutions, tips, tricks, and optional homework. I provide tutoring in test prep (ACT, SAT, and PSAT/NMSQT), algebra, precalculus, trigonometry, calculus, and writing courses. I am an experienced proofreader and love to help students improve their writing skills.

I typically schedule lessons lasting 1 hour, 75 minutes, 90 minutes, or two hours. I am happy to answer any questions and am readily available on Wyzant! Contact me for availability.

In addition to high school standardized test preparation, I tutor algebra I, algebra II, precalculus, trigonometry, geometry, calculus I. I am not currently taking on calculus II and multivariable calculus students.
