About John

Bio

My inexhaustible passion for the humanities fuels my commitment to excel as a writing, literature, and test prep tutor. In addition to teaching students all the way from middle school to the master's degree, I'm a writer myself. I know that generating ideas, doing research, composing under pressure, and proofreading your final draft is hard work, and I want to support you as you discover the writing process that works for you.

I hold a B.A. in English with highest honors from UNC-Chapel Hill, a PhD in comparative literature from Emory, and a Master of Social Work degree from Columbia. I served as a visiting assistant professor of English at Oklahoma State University and East Carolina University, taught high school at The Galloway School in Atlanta, and taught or counseled middle schoolers at two schools in New York City. Along the way, I wrote a book about emotion and American poetry. These days, when I'm not working full-time as a psychotherapist, I write poetry, essays, and book reviews for several websites.
