I'm Angela, and I recently graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Music and a Minor in Spanish. Among my most rewarding experiences in college was sharing my passion for my favorite areas of study with my fellow students as a Peer-to-Peer tutor, along with getting to write at (great) length about those subjects. Our peer tutoring program trained me to formulate creative suggestions and questions in lessons that would allow my students to arrive at the answer on their own and consequently retain the information better. My goal is to improve students' comprehension and ability to apply the concepts while finding ways to spark their interest in the material. I find this approach to be most successful when tailored to the needs and strengths of each student, which is why I make every effort to get to know my students as individuals and establish rewarding, productive relationships with each.

In my senior year of college I was a Peer-to-Peer tutor for Music Theory, where I regularly met one-on-one with students to answer their questions on difficult concepts and help them figure out how to apply those concepts to practice assignments. I also ran a review room during final exam period, where I reinforced the material through practice questions and offered feedback on assignments where permitted. Outside of this program, I have experience reading and offering comments on my fellow students' writing assignments, as well as in evaluating student work in my three years as an Environmental Science Teacher's Assistant.

Music

Music Theory,

Music Theory

I was a Peer-to-Peer tutor for Music Theory in college and worked one-on-one helping students with anything--from harmonic analysis, to understanding musical form, to voice leading and composition. I also maintained an A average in Music Theory throughout all 4 years of college.
Sight Singing,

Sight Singing

As a Music major in college I maintained an A average in my Ear Training classes, which included an extensive sight singing component (including on solfege syllables). I now work part-time as a section leader in my choir where I am frequently asked to sing a line of 4-part music on first sight. I am able to read treble (G), bass (F), and C clefs, and also am familiar with medieval chant notation (neumes).
Voice (Music)

Voice (Music)

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music and have over 16 years of choral experience, the last 2 as a paid section leader. I have studied voice for the last 9 years and counting, focusing mostly on opera and Classical, as well as Broadway to a lesser degree. Over the last few years I have played a number of leading roles in operas and earned various awards for solo work, and I am periodically contracted to sing wedding and funeral services.

Knowledgeable, Patient and Compassionate Tutor!

Angela helped with my son's Spanish 1 summer work. My son was overwhelmed by the content until he met with Angela. She calmly walked him through all of the work with guidance, next steps and they got through most of the course work in the two hour session. We will be hiring Angela again to complete the work and also going forward to support through the school year.
