Hi there! My name is Patrick, and I bring a unique, energized approach to mathematics education whether I'm teaching in my middle grades or secondary classrooms or partnering with you remotely. Mathematics shouldn't be boring! It doesn't have to be so hard, either.

Hi there! My name is Patrick, and I bring a unique, energized approach to mathematics education whether I'm teaching in my middle grades or secondary classrooms or partnering with you remotely. Mathematics shouldn't be boring! It doesn't have to be so hard, either.

Up through high school, mathematics was straightforward for me, but when I committed to it in college, I found a lot of difficulty with the work. I dealt with my challenges and grew, and went to graduate school to understand why some types of teaching and learning work much better than others--and now I've got a PhD in the content, pedagogy, and psychology of it all! Here's the moral of the story: it's ok to feel a bit pressured by a challenge, but you can get through it, and you'll do it more quickly if you don't suffer in silence; a good instructor can be adaptive and support you in ways that help you advance as a student, mathematician, and person in general, while playing to your unique strengths.

I've covered a lot of different mathematics courses over the years as both an instructor and researcher, but I also have extensive experience with standardized exams (most especially the SAT and ACT), having worked for both Revolution Prep and the Compass Education Group earlier in my career.

If you're looking for a mathematics tutor and coach, I can help. If you're having mathematics anxiety and need someone to reintroduce you to mathematics, I can help. If you're trying to ace that college entrance exam, or the logic section of the LSAT, or the GRE or GMAT quant sections, I can help.

Let's talk about how you or your child can take the next steps towards your academic or professional goals!

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have tutored Algebra for many years, and my doctoral thesis will even involve Algebra I students! This topic is essential for many college exams and the backbone of a high school mathematics program, so it is a popular and necessary focal point.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have tutored Algebra for many years, and my doctoral thesis will even involve Algebra I students! Algebra II builds right off of this, and sometimes combines some ideas from Geometry or Trigonometry, topics with which I am also comfortable. This topic is essential for many college exams and the backbone of a high school mathematics program, so it is a popular and necessary focal point.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is an integral part of a good university mathematics program (pun intended). Although I haven't done a ton of multi-variable Calculus tutoring, I have done a fair share of single-variable, and I can help you get on track.
English,

English

Every language as its own unique culture and components. For English, I can help you get-ahead on Literature, Grammar, or Writing. As a native speaker and a frequent contributor to graduate research papers, I am sure I can give you a helping hand.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry shakes things up from algebra, and is often students' first introduction to formal proof-writing and the study of logic, which forms the basis for higher levels of mathematics. I can teach you how to formally write out proofs and understand how to draw figures to help you deeply understand the content you'll encounter.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Pre-algebra can be a challenging topic for many students because it begins moving from concrete ideas towards more abstract ones; having taught a great deal of algebra, I can help you bridge that gap.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Precalculus is a course that runs the gamut in difficulty; its teaching can include many different subjects and the content can be presented in many different styles. It will often merge elegant results from Algebra, Geometry, and/or Trigonometry to come up with things altogether new. Having a wealth of experience in all of those subjects, I am confident in my Precalculus teaching skill.
Reading,

If you're looking to get a leg-up on reading, I can help you out, whether you're struggling at the elementary or secondary level, or trying to parse university+ text.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

SAT Mathematics is going to be a comprehensive overview of ideas from Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Besides this, there's also a test-taking component that rewards students who have refined skills for this particular exam. Not only can I help you review the content, but I can teach you how to get a better score with good practices.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is the study of a lot of particularly nice relationships that we see arising from triangles--but it goes much deeper than that. It's commonly paired with Algebra II, and I can help your student with either of those subjects.
