I am a Masters of Data Science student at Columbia University in the City of New York, having recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in Mathematics and a focus in statistics, obtaining a 4.0 in my major. While an undergrad, I worked through the University as a resource center counselor, in-class learning assistant, honors teaching assistant for calculus II, and advanced grader for Real Analysis and Modern Algebra courses. I also had the great pleasure of helping over two dozen students individually improve their scores on various standardized tests--notably the Praxis and the GRE Quant (Quantitative section)--as well as helping them grasp mathematics topics ranging from algebra up through the calculus series including multivariable calculus and into analysis, modern algebra, abstract algebra (group theory if you like), linear algebra, and statistics. I tutored high school students and graduating seniors knocking out their last math requirement before graduate school.

I love to see the joy that comes over a student and his or her family when they get their final grade back and it's exactly what they are looking for. I particularly enjoy it when a student has fallen behind and I get to work with the student to get them back into "A" territory---it's just that much more gratifying for everyone!

After receiving a perfect on the quantitative section of the GRE (I also received perfect marks on the math sections of both the SAT and ACT), I was accepted to Columbia University's Data Science Institute to pursue a master's in data science. With my master's, I aim to work in finance and eventually pursue a PhD either in Data Science or Economics.

Something all my clients tell me is that I make things easy to understand. Whereas in class, they often times find themselves confused and unable to keep up with a complex lecture, I am told that my way of explaining things is somehow more basic and accessible than others.
I received an A in every math class I took at the undergraduate level--and

GRE

I obtained a perfect score on the GRE Quantitative section and I know firsthand the doors that can open as a result from a good GRE score. The admissions officers at Columbia strongly implied that the reason I was accepted to their Data Science program was my exemplary GRE score. I have been tutoring the GRE Quantitative section for over a year and have helped students get grades as high as 168 out of 170; good enough to get into Harvard Business School for the student I helped! Because of my experience and expertise, I am confident that I can provide the very best instruction available anywhere for the GRE, and my students will tell you the same thing!

Statistics

Statistics

As an undergraduate student, I worked both in the Math Resource Center and on my own as a Private Tutor, helping students to understand Statistics concepts. They are fundamental to the Masters of Data Science degree in which I am matriculated at Columbia University. My students tell me that my way of explaining complex material to make it easy to grasp helps them to be confident for tests and of course, satisfied in their final grade!

As an undergraduate student, I worked both in the Math Resource Center and on my own as a Private Tutor, helping students to understand algebra 1 concepts. This includes getting students up to speed with linear functions, quadratic functions, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions. I have tutored dozens of students in algebra topics and I get results. My students always tell me that my patience and ability to explain leave them with a great sense of understanding and of course satisfaction in their final grade!
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

As an undergrad, I worked in the Math Resource Center; tutoring students individually and in groups in topics including pre-algebra, algebra 1 and algebra 2, pre-calculus, trigonometry, derivative calculus, integral calculus, multivariable calculus, and even into the high levels of modern algebra and abstract algebra. My students always tell me that my patience and ability to explain leave them with a high level of understanding and satisfaction with their final grade!

Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have tutored linear algebra numerous times previously face-to-face with students taking it at the undergraduate level. It is one of my favorite topics in mathematics as it is very germane to the study of statistics--in which my major was focused, and which forms the backbone of the Masters of Data Science techniques which I study here at Columbia University in the City of New York. My students always tell me that my way of making complex material easy to grasp helps them to get the grade they want.

Very Patient

Michael was very patient when trying to get together. Initially there were a lot of technicals issue our first day which caused us to have to reschedule. The following day we went over my practice test and through Michael’s guidance I began to realize the silly errors I had made. He stresses the importance of honing in on the details of solving problems. These are the score killers. Looking forward to the homework and eclipsing that 160 mark in quant.

Math wiz makes tutoring sessions fun

I was hesitant about getting a private tutor when I first started preparing for the GRE but was immediately pleased with my decision after my first session with Michael. I needed someone who was very strong in math but also genuinely enjoys the subject. Michael has been able to help me learn multiple methods for solving even the most difficult math problems, walking me through them until I feel I know them like the back of my hand. He's also been helpful in developing my long term study plan and short term homework assignments, something that was key in my tutor selection. Couldn't recommend him more.

Outstanding Tutor

Michael is an amazing tutor who works with you thoroughly to make sure the lesson is understood. His response time is fast and is open to answering any questions or concerns. I 100% recommend him for your next tutoring session

Flexible and knowledgeable

Michael helped me prep for a Statistics test that I was completely lost on in a week and a half. His patience and willingness to explain what were probably menial concepts were immensely helpful. Would absolutely recommend.

Wonderful Statistics Tutor

Michael helped me wrap my head around some fundamental concepts relating to descriptive statistics, specifically the standard deviation of one draw of a deck of cards. He walked me through the steps and helped me visualize what was going on at each step. His tutoring style is friendly and patient. I would recommend Michael every time.

Extremely Helpful

I'm extremely impressed, Michael has a very fluid understanding of statistics. I've had several statistics tutors, from graduate students to seasoned professors, and at times it's difficult to explain my professor's strange methods, but Michael just seems to grasp things with ease. I've had tutors spend 15 minutes trying to explain me something, that he summarized in a few seconds. Listening and digesting, his explanations feels very natural, and the information is not too overwhelming.
