(SUNY-ESF) State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry (Master's)
Hi I'm Casey! I graduate cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor's degree in environmental science and a minor in applied economics and management. Following that, I went to the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) in Syracuse, NY where I received a Master's degree in Environmental Studies, a discipline that looks at the way people interact with and navigate their environment. While I was at SUNY-ESF, I gained invaluable teaching experience, serving as a teaching assistant for 2 different courses and over 100 students in total, as well as working as a writing tutor in the college's Writing Resource Center.
While in high school and in college, I gained tons of informal experience as a math tutor. Growing up, I was always excellent at math, and was accelerated 2 years in my high school mathematics courses. Knowing this, all of my friends always asked me for help with their homework! After a little while helping out my friends, word got around and I became an unofficial math tutor for my high school - I helped students almost every day after school in my grade and those above and below me as well. Because of all of my formal and informal tutoring experience in the past, I understand how to work with students of all ages. My tutoring strategy is simple - I try to understand and work with the learning style of my students, rather than try to force them into a way of doing things that is uncomfortable. I also always strive to develop an excellent rapport with my students and use positive reinforcement rather than negative.
I can't wait to work with you and see what we can accomplish together! Message me if you want to set up a lesson or you have any further questions about me! Hi I'm Casey! Casey was a solid tutor who took the time to evaluate the needed foci for my upcoming exam. I look forward to working and developing my abilities with him.
We set up times to meet and worked on a few strategies. I feel more confident. Look forward to meeting again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an avid basketball player and watcher since I could stand. I played varsity basketball in high school and in rec leagues since then. My dad was a high school coach and worked at several local camps. When I was old enough, I would frequently tag along to camps and clinics and help the younger kids with their game. I am confident I can teach all aspect of the game, including individual technical skills, court spacing and how to play with a team, fitness, and strength
I have vast experiences speaking in front of people in a number of different capacities. I held numerous leadership positions in clubs and organizations at both my undergraduate and graduate universities through which I frequently ran meetings spoke in front of large groups of people. I have also presented research at several conferences and educational symposiums. In addition, I have experience helping others with public speaking through being a teaching assistant for two courses during my master's program which required students to present to the class frequently.
I've been an avid soccer player since I was young. All throughout middle and high school I played year round club soccer for a high level team, was a 2 year starter on my high school's varsity team, and also played on the New York State West Olympic Development Program team for 3 years. I also watch the sport frequently and am extremely knowledgeable about how to teach all aspects of the game, including both the individual and team components
