I am a graduate in English Literature and hold a Post Graduate Diploma in English Studies. There are patterns in standardized tests such as the GRE, GMAT and SAT, and nuances of thought which a test taker must become familiar with. I nurture the dormant mental abilities of the test takers and enable them to acquire the mindset required to take the standardized test successfully.
It was in 1993 that I began to teach GRE (Verbal Section) and TOEFL in a small test prep company. After a year I was employed in another test prep company where I worked for 14 years. During this time I began to instruct students for other standardized tests including GMAT (Verbal and AWA), SAT (Reading, Writing and Language sections). I taught various versions of the tests as and when their formats changed over the years.
It was only during this time that the company grew from having 250 students (1994) to one having 7000 students (2007) per year. I derived tremendous satisfaction in instructing test takers how to take the GRE, GMAT, SAT, TOEFL and IELTS with confidence. Their success was my success.
I am happy to say that many of my students got admission into graduate degree programs in accredited universities in the US, UK, Australia and Europe. My students consisted mostly of engineers (in their senior year (or having already acquired a Bachelors in engineering) and graduates (those enrolled in Masters degree programs or having completed their Master's).
There were a few gold medalists too, those who had ranked first in their university exams. They were sure that since they had won a gold medal, GRE was going to be a cake walk, while others lived in dread of taking the tests. For both kinds of students I would conduct a diagnostic test, then I begin building the confidence of the students by giving them a clear understanding of what the standardized tests were actually trying to test. I empowered them with strategies and an understanding of how the tests were constructed, what to expect from the tests and why and how the right answers were correct and the wrong answers incorrect. I taught them how to reason the answers out and prepared them to take the test because I wanted every student to realize his/her full potential. I have not limited myself to GRE, GMAT or SAT. Now I also teach ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, (both English and Math), and AP English Language and Composition. All my life I have sought to better the lives of others. Teaching, you see, is a daily sacrifice.
In addition to teaching, I interviewed, hired and trained candidates for positions of teaching faculty. I gave orientation to teaching staff in various branches of the company for which I was working. I generated questions for the tests and brought out CDs of GRE and TOEFL in the computer adaptive format. I was head of the research department for four years. All these I mention not to trumpet my achievements but to encourage you to gain the confidence that you can achieve a high score on GRE, GMAT and SAT. Together we will tap the untapped resources of your mind so you can succeed in the tests, and in life as well. However, be prepared to do some rigorous thinking. As the legendary soccer star Pele said, "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
Now let me tell you what I would like to teach:
GRE Verbal:- Reading Comprehension, Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence Questions and Analytical Writing Assessment (Analysis of an Issue and Analysis of an Argument).
GMAT Verbal :- Sentence Correction, Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning and Analytical Writing Assessment (Analysis of an Argument.)
SAT:- Reading, Writing and Language, and the Essay.
