More recently, I have worked as an American History teacher at Success Academy Charter Schools.

I am uniquely qualified to offer college admissions counselling because, as a non-legacy student from a large, underfunded public school district, I received acceptance offers from Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, and a host of other top universities, and was recently accepted to the University of Oxford for graduate study.

Wanted a final review of a grad school essay

I think it is a difficult task for tutors to help improve essays; I can perfect my own grammar and spelling, but how can someone help update an essay in ways that make it better, yet never cross the line of academic honesty? I really wanted an intelligent person to read and help me change my essay around, but wasn't sure if that would even be possible without crossing any lines and making sure to keep the essay MY work. I was very happy in how it worked out. Martin sent me back my essay with his suggestions, which I could confirm or deny in Word. He played with word choice, transitions, deleting sentences that took up too many words (in the case of sentences that were tangents/details that strayed from the purpose of the essay). I also told him beforehand I wanted him to make sure the last sentences of my paragraphs were strong, because I know that they tend to be weak, and without writing a whole new sentence, he made my sentence better. I was happy how it did worked out and Martin was able to make changes without crossing lines of academic honesty. It was very good experience.

Great Diagnostic!

My daughter had a diagnostic lesson with Martin. She is preparing for multiple standardized exams as well as final school assignments. She sent him a school paper, as well as an ACT practice test. He came prepared with comments and an understanding of her weaknesses, as well as her strengths. Its clear that he understands standardized testing very well, and that he has done very well academically and understands how to help a student succeed in an academic environment. He came off extremely organized and knowledgeable. I have hired numerous tutors for my daughter over the years, and she rarely likes any of them--but she was very happy with Martin's approach and personality, so I look forward to booking him for more sessions. We put in place a tutoring "program" for the next few months already!

Very helpful and friendly tutor

This was my first session with Martin. I met with him to work on my essay writing skills for AP US history. He impressed me right away with his knowledge and passion for the subject, especially President Lincoln. American history isn't a subject I usually enjoy but his style of tutoring made it more enjoyable because it felt more like a friendly conversation than anything else. We discussed mainly essay writing strategies and how to write more analytically which is something I've struggled with. We also went over thesis statements and developing analytical arguments. It never made sense when my teacher explained it but he made it very clear and simple. he is also a very friendly guy with a good personality. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to work on essay writing or just wants to prepare for the Ap exam with a tutor who really cares about the subject and won't make it a drag.
