When I became a college student, I was offered a position at my University's math tutoring center. Because of my previous experiences as a tutor, I was up for the new challenge. During my Sophomore year, I became a Teacher's Assistant working in classes of 25-40 students.

Throughout my various experiences, I learned that I had a knack for figuring out the way people think and what methods help certain people grasp a new concept best. A problem facing many students in Math is that a majority do not have a complete understanding of the prerequisite material, which is partially the fault of many unconcerned teachers.

Not only do I enjoy helping students grasp new understandings of this material, but I also genuinely enjoy helping people learn about a subject that I am passionate about. It's great to be able to see my students improve their skills, while succeeding in subjects they might've had doubts on.

No-one genuinely hates math. The way that it was taught to you is a different story, however. Each person learns math differently, so they need to be able to find a way that connects the dots for them. Being a good tutor is the ability to not make a one-size fits all approach but rather to cater to each individual and make personalized plans for each student.

I look forward to working with you!

Calculus,

Calculus

I've been helping engineering students master calculus for over four years, and studied the subject from many different angles. I've studied and tutored courses such as Calculus 1, 2 and 3, Multivariable Calculus, Vector Calculus, Differential Equations, Advanced Calculus, and Analysis 1 and 2. It's the subject I've spent the most time tutoring on, and I feel I can help anyone succeed in it.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

Much of my undergraduate degree has been focused on courses in or related to differential equations and how to solve them. Also, going to, as well as working in the math tutoring center of, an engineering school (where students use differential equations on a regular basis for the work) has given me quite a bit of practice in teaching and tutoring on the subject. My course work on differential equations includes Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Numerical Methods for non-linear Partial Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, and Fluid Dynamics.

Articulate and Knowledgeable

We went through and Jake helped assess where I currently am with my math knowledge. From there we went through problems and set up a plan moving forward to help me reach my goals.

Knowledgeable, patient, and excellent geometry tutor!

So far, Jake has been a pleasure to work with. He was punctual and ready to start the lesson at the assigned time. He was knowledgeable of the subject matter, simplified complex ideas, was patient, calm, and understanding. My son was so appreciative and stated that he came away feeling more confident about geometry after one lesson with Jake than he has from weekly tutoring sessions with his own teacher. I highly recommend Jake as a tutor!

Knows his stuff when it comes to math

We were hard-pressed to find a good tutor for our daughter who really knows how to teach - not just knows math....and then we found Jake! His approach is individualized and he's done an incredible job explaining math problems in an easy way for our daughter to understand. His patient and able to relate to the thinking process of our daughter and how she approaches math. I'd highly recommend Jake to any parent needing help with math tutoring for their child.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Jake was good and patient with my daughter. It was our first class, and we were delighted to find him the exact person he described himself in a preview.

Patient & Knowledgeable

Jake helped me prep for my math placement test going over elementary algebra and some college level math. He gives multiple ways to solve a problem if you don't get it, and it his patient and will explain it however many time you need. He's super easy to talk to and comfortable to be around. Thank you!

Amazing!

There is no way I would have finished my college Calculus course without Jake's help! He knows his material backwards and forwards! If he happens to not know he is able to teach himself accurately within a minute or two! He has a great teaching method and really makes sure you leave the lesson understanding your material. He is also there to answer the occasional question through email if needed! Completely suggest getting Jake for a tutor!
