Learn GIS from a cartographer working in the field! I am currently employed as a cartographer for an education tech company in NYC. I hold a masters degree in GISc with a specialization in cartography and geovisualization. Upon completion of my degree, I spent two years as an adjunct instructor/GISc researcher at CUNY Lehman College, where I taught classes in the Earth, Environmental, and Geospatial Sciences department. Courses ranged from geography 101 for undergraduates to highly advanced GIS, spatial analysis, and cartographic design classes in the MS-GISc graduate program. Prior to the adjunct-appointment, I worked at the CUNY Lehman Urban GIS lab as a tutor, where I instructed and aided students of all levels of ability in their varied geospatial pursuits.

My approach to teaching GIS and GISc-related principles is straightforward and holistic. I attempt to begin where students identify deficiencies in their knowledge. From there we move to technical mastery of the software, which is usually an initial stumbling block for students. Once the program (ArcGIS or QuantumGIS depending) has been sufficiently demystified, we move to the more theoretical, methodological principles governing spatial problem-solving and so-called 'spatial-thought'. From there we work step-wise through the material at hand, whether homework, research project, or something else.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any additional questions or inquiries.

*Please note: my intention is to tutor people in GIS and cartography who are actually making an effort to learn this discipline. As such I will not accept requests from potential tutees who are seeking desperate, last minute help on homework, or a final project, etc.

In addition to being 90% finished with a masters of science in GISc at an accredited university, I am also employed by the university as a lab tutor in the Urban GIS Lab on campus. My job there consists of helping students trouble shoot their labs for various GIS-related classes, advising them on spatial analysis methodologies and spatial problem solving approaches, etc. In addition to my work as a tutor, I periodically work as a research assistant for my professors on any number of ongoing research projects. My main tasks as a research assistant typically include: map/scientific figure creation, spatial analysis, data cleaning, methodology write-ups, and literature reviews.
