I recently moved to New York City from Washington, D.C., where I worked as an Elite Tutor for one of the area's top tier college prep tutoring companies, No Anxiety Prep. I have experience tutoring students ages 5 to 17 in the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests (Math 1 and Biology E/M), SSAT/ISEE, HSPT, College Applications, essay writing, Biology, Pre-Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, Elementary School Math, and pre-K reading. My work with over 20 ACT students over the past year has yielded an average ACT score increase of 4.6 points.
My recent experience as an Elite Tutor as well as my prior experience teaching and working in higher education has prepared me well for this position. In these positions, I developed the ability to earn respect from my students and communicate professionally with parents. Through working with both highly gifted students and those with moderate-to-severe learning disabilities, I have expanded my capacity to communicate with students of various aptitudes. What I enjoy most about tutoring is that it gives me the privilege of acting as a mentor while assisting high school students in increasing their college admissions options. I strive to consistently work with a patient, positive, and non-judgmental attitude to improve students’ confidence during sessions, and in so doing, help them produce optimal test results.
Many of my students have applauded me as an expert teacher, an experienced mentor, and a source of empathy and improved confidence. One of my students this past year had an extensive learning disability that not only had left her severely lacking in many basic test skills, but also crippled her self-confidence on the ACT. While working through problems with her, I constantly reminded her of her small achievements while working patiently through the material she did not understand. After working through many sessions together at a pace that was appropriate for her, I helped her raise her score from a 19 to a 28. She later told me that working with her had helped her develop a confidence that pervades every other part of her life.
I strongly believe that a true education educates the whole person. A student is more than his or her grades; he or she is a whole person who needs to grow emotionally, socially, and physically in addition to mentally. To help students achieve their greatest potential, I take the time to dig beneath the surface and really get to know each student and his or her individual needs. Teaching has thus far proven to be one of the most rewarding endeavors I have ever undertaken. My students make my work feel like a calling rather than simply a job. It is my goal to become the most effective educator I can possibly be in order to give the gifts of knowledge, confidence, and results in the greatest magnitude and to as many students as I am capable.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
