About Austin

I received my undergraduate degree from Columbia University majoring in Global Economics and International Relations with a 3.4 GPA. I hold a post graduate business degree from New York University in financial analysis and banking. In addition to living in Costa Rica and Israel, I was raised in New York City where I attended the Allen Stevenson School and the Collegiate School. I also attended N.O.L.S. (National Outdoor Leadership Schools) in the Pacific Cascades and the Baja Peninsula and is an experienced expedition leader.

I have over 16 years of tutoring/teaching experience in all subjects for grades K-12 and standardized test preparation (SAT I; II, ACT, GRE, LSAT, AP Exams, SSAT, ISEE, GMAT). I also work primarily with students who need individualized learning platforms, many of whom have learning deficits such as ADHD and on the spectrum. I have developed an expertise in supplemental learning, test preparation, and content subjects (Global History, American History, Government; Civic Policy, English Literature).

I have been teaching students in K-6th, specifically ones struggling with learning developmental issues for over 10 years.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring high-school math for 13 years.

English

English analytics, literature, grammar, dictation, as well as public speaking are my strongest subject areas beyond standardized test preparation. I have taken all types of english courses at the graduate level from an Ivy League university and received the highest marks. I am able to tutor every level of english and all it's various sub-stratas.

Literature

I have taken graduate level courses at Columbia University in literature and received a 4.0 for the final grade of the course. I have also been tutoring literature since 2003. I am extremely well read and versed in this subject matter at an expert level.

SAT Math

I have been tutoring the SATs since 2003 in a formal classroom setting, such as Sylvan Learning Centers, as well as 1:1 tutoring. When I take SATs for practice I receive a near perfect score every time, as is to be expected from an SAT tutor of course!
