About Craig

Welcome students and parents: You may not know it yet, but stumbling upon my page may change your life for the better. With me, your immersion into the world of science and education may just open up opportunities in your life that may alter you or your children's future path. Let my contagious spirit help you, or your children embrace and love education, reading/writing, and the math and sciences.

I have tutored students at the junior/high school, and college levels. As a teaching assistance for undergraduates at the highly competitive Ivy league institute, the University of Pennsylvania, I have been to taught to dissect problems and challenges into manageable components, and furthermore to pass along this knowledge unto others. Knowledge and understanding alone does not make a good educator, it is the ability to transmit such skills which is remarkable.

I have a PhD and a Master's of Science of Biochemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor's of Science in biomedical sciences from King's College, University of London. I am a STEM focused educator, having experience in teaching biology, and molecular biology having been in science my whole life. The hallmark of my experience was as a Laboratory teaching assistant at the University of Pennsylvania for undergraduates and on many occasions I tutored students privately. This was my stepping stone into a professorial role. I am originally from NYC, and attended Stuyvesant, so I also help tutor students with the SSAT and SHSAT. Currently, I also advise parents and students on the college admissions process.

I have many years of biomedical (DNA purification, sequencing and other methodologies) and clinical research, at the NYU School of Medicine, and UPenn Medicine, and can teach you and your children innovative ways of problem solving, critical thinking and embracing the curiosity of life. Allow me to work with your children to tailor their educational needs. I have also counseled the bright undergraduates in their graduate school application process.

So reach out to me, take my hand and let me guide you or your loved one into the the exploration of science and math. Nothing is more empowering than learning and understanding, and I would love to nurture this in you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I did not take the ACT, but had a near Perfect SAT Math Score. I am UPenn Educated. In high school, I took the AP Calculus and Oxford and Cambridge Math exams.

Algebra 1

I excelled in math and often tutored family friends (that have since outgrown tutoring needs) who were in middle/junior high school.

Most my formal tutoring has been high school and college students and I acted as their teaching assistant and advisor especially for graduate school admissions and composition of formal recommendations for graduate school.

Algebra 2

Most my formal tutoring has been college students and I acted as their teaching assistant and adviser especially for graduate school admissions and composition of formal recommendations for graduate school. I was a laboratory teaching assistant in molecular biology, and microbiology for 2.5 yrs at the Univ. of Pennsylvania for undergrads.

ASVAB

I took the ASVAB sometime in college when I was considering the military. I scored in the top 99% and when the proctors noticed my exam score they all asked me why I was joining the military. They told me they hadn't yet seen anyone score higher than I. But much of the subject material that I teach and tutor is cross transferable in terms of material, thought process, and approach. I am especially strong in the math and science aspect of the exam.

Biology

I taught Molecular Biology lab for UPenn undergrads, and microbiology. and I myself took advanced Physiology and Biology at UPenn. I also took AP Bio in high school. I had a near perfect SAT math score (780 when it was scored out of 800) and also attended UPenn. But most importantly I can get him/her to raise his/her Biology score!

Chemistry

Currently teaching and tutored many students in Chemistry from High School to College level. I myself took advanced Chemistry at UPenn, and also took AP Chemistry. Was also a Molecular Biology Lab TA at UPenn and a molecular biology lab researcher at NYU School of Medicine and UPenn. In addition to reinforcing the fundamentals, and dissecting advanced material so it is more easily understood, my plan to initially is to examine my student's thought process, and then deconstruct their approach so it becomes more systematic and methodical.

Elementary Math

I excelled in math and often tutored family friends (that have since outgrown tutoring needs) who were in middle/junior high school. I also have experience tutoring children through Wyzant.

Most my formal tutoring has been high school and college students and I acted as their teaching assistant and advisor especially for graduate school admissions and composition of formal recommendations for graduate school. I was a teaching assistant at the University of Pennsylvania.

Geometry

From postulates, to graphs, translations to prisms; to explanation of congruences, plane geometry, polgyons translations and reflections angles ... I've got you covered. Geometry is one of the math subjects students often struggle with (amongst a few others) and have been teaching Geometry for 4 years. Most importantly I am able to deconstruct the more challenging topics and reconstruct them for simplified understanding.

Physiology

I taught Molecular Biology lab for UPenn undergrads, and microbiology, and I myself took advanced Physiology, Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology and cadaver/human dissection at UPenn Medicine. I had a near perfect SAT math score (780 when it was scored out of 800) and also attended UPenn. But most importantly I can get him/her to raise his/her Anatomy/Physiology confidence, understanding and exam scores! I have also counseling students and parents on college admissions process since I was a counselor for UPenn undergrads for graduate school admissions.

SAT Math

Near Perfect SAT Math. UPenn Educated. In high school took AP Calculus and Oxford and Cambridge Math exams.

SSAT

I have been tutoring the SSAT for over 10 years, initially commencing with family friends and now Wyzant clients, and have propelled them all from mediocre scorers to the top percentile, gaining admittance into the top schools of their choice. I took the SSAT and attended Stuyvesant. I scored in the top 95th percentile of most standardized exams.

TOEFL

As a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, I was a language and student ambassador for newly arrived international students, which included being their guide and assisting them with their language capabilities, written and spoken.
