About Katherine

I am passionate about learning and have seen first hand how education can create opportunities. I specialize in tutoring PSAT, SAT, ACT or GRE, focusing on the reading and writing sections.

My own in-depth preparations for these exams resulted in high scores on each of these tests, and I have worked extensively with other students to help them accomplish their goals. I focus on helping students understand how the tests are structured and written so that they can learn how to maximize their scores while minimizing their stress and frustration.

As a history, music, and business major in college who completed a rigorous Honors college curriculum and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, I am also comfortable tutoring English, literature, history, and music theory. I have taught music privately for years, working with piano and harp students of a variety of ages and levels. I have also tutored fellow university students during my time in college, and led group study sessions in history and literature.

I am generally available on the weekends and in the evenings, but I am happy to work with your schedule and can provide either in-person or online tutoring.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you accomplish your educational goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I received a 35/36 on the English section of the ACT in spring 2011 and have helped numerous other students raise their scores since then.

ACT Reading

I received a perfect score on the Reading section of the ACT and have helped numerous other students raise their scores.

American History

I graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in history from Baylor University.

European History

I graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in history from Baylor University, focusing in European history.

GRE

I took the GRE in summer 2015 and received a Verbal score of 170, a Quantitative score of 167, and a Writing score of 5. My own preparation for the test and background in tutoring SAT and ACT have allowed me to help multiple other students improve their GRE scores in a short time frame.

Harp

I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Harp Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. I began playing the harp at the age of seven, and have been practicing and taking lessons for the past fifteen years. I have performed extensively with both professional and amateur groups and have taught several students. In addition, I have completed extensive coursework in music theory, music history, and aural skills.

PSAT

I was a National Merit Scholar when I took the test in 2011, with a cumulative score of 228.

SAT Reading

I received perfect scores in the SAT reading section and have helped multiple other students improve their scores.

SAT Writing

I received perfect scores in the reading and writing sections of the SAT, and very high scores on the math section. I love helping students understand the test and teaching them how to win at the game of standardized test-taking.
