Hi!

I am Stephen M. (M.A., Foreign Languages). I am a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA where I studied French and Spanish linguistics and literature. Additionally, I have studied second language acquisitions and heritage language education. Professionally I have worked with top French and Hispanic cultural and educational institutions. I interned at the Cultural Office at the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. during my last semester of Grad school. Currently I work at the French Institute Alliance Fran├žaise in the PR department.

I believe in learning the fundamentals, but I am also a huge supporter of real-time practice over memorization. Especially with foreign languages, the best way to learn is to speak and listen. I will have my students watching TV shows in French or Spanish to help them get a feel for how the language is actually spoken. Plus, I am sure my native-speaking friends would love to help them better understand the culture.

For public speaking, I use my improvisational theater to get students to become more comfortable with themselves so that they can nail any presentation! I was an P-SAT grader and tutor at the Huntington Learning Center for 6 months. I graded students' essay portions and helped them improve their reading/writing scores.

Not only have I studied linguistics (applied and sociolinguistics), I am a foreign cultural fanatic! I believe that when you truly want to learn another language, reading books and learning grammar are important --- and so are watching TV shows and movies and listening to music and podcasts. Students will learn idiomatic expressions as well as the standard grammar so that they can speak with everyone!

If you are looking for a fun and engaging way to learn, I am your guy!
