I am currently a 5th grade teacher as well as grade team lead at Dream Charter School in Harlem. This is my fourth year teaching. I have a dual masters degree in both Elementary Education as well as Special Education. I am also dually certified in both Elementary School Grades 1-6 and Special Education 1-6. I think I would be perfect for the job because my teaching style is very structured and engaging. I believe that if the classroom is structured it will allow for more learning to be done. In order for students to be successful they need to be engaged, have fun, and fall in love with learning.
I currently plan the math curriculum for the 5th grade team. I have attended Math in the City trainings as well as trainings with Stephanie Smith through Cognitive Guided Instruction.
Every day while I am teaching I am constantly pulling small groups for instruction during reading to help support students with their responses to literature. I also am responsible for planning and executing 3 guided reading groups each day. During this time I provide students with targeted learning for their specific reading needs.
I am very knowledge able about the Common Core standards. I am aware of the individual needs each standard requires and am able to provide rigorous work to align with the Common Core.
I am very organized and always prepared. This will allow for me to instill good habits upon students to help them with their study skills and best prepare them for school and learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
