About Ruby

I'm a sophomore studying chemical engineering at Columbia University. In addition to this, I'm a member of the club frisbee team, as well as Engineers Without Borders, and Society of Women Engineers. During my first year in college, I researched in in Civil Engineering lab, and traveled to Uganda as part of an engineering trip.

I've always had a passion of math and science. Through high school, I helped to tutor my peers through our school's tutoring space. I love discussing problems, and the many tools and methods employed to solve them. I'm patient, and make sure that a concept is fully understood before moving onto the next problem. As a tutor, I'm available to provide academic help in math and science subjects, as well as SAT/ACT tutoring, and college admissions help.

Overall, I'm an enthusiastic and fun-loving person. I love running in Riverside, eating with friends, and discussing current events late into the night. I promise that I'll be engaged, and will work with any student to further their learning.

I've always excelled at math; earning straight A's in Columbia's math curriculum, as well as excelling in high school, and on standardized test math. Overall, math is about picking apart a problem to find the path to the solution. It can be tedious, and difficult, but I love the process, and I enjoy helping others understand it. I'm good at explaining concepts, and often help my friends to comprehend the nuances of professor's lectures.

Please reach out with any questions you may have! I look forward to speaking with you, and discussing how I can help.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
