About Michel

I am a very patient person by nature and I love helping others. In the past I taught art classes and chess to elementary students. When the classes ended, students gave me gifts of their own artwork which melted my heart. I love being in a learning environment and encourage a thirst for knowledge to my students. I love tutoring because it makes me feel good to help students reach their full potential. I love to see the smiles on my students faces when they accomplish goals they've been working towards.

In my professional career, I worked in Marketing for a well-known travel publication. I managed a team of writers and designers to create editorial content for my clients. I also trained several co-workers and interns how to fulfill their responsibilities on the job in the publishing industry.

I love teaching the Elementary age because students are so curious during that time in their lives and they love learning about new things! I have always loved spelling and have great time management skills. I used to watch the Spelling Bee growing up just to challenge myself on words I didn't know.

I majored in Art History at The George Washington University where I taught two classes, one on Rembrandt and the other, Van Dyck. I have been fortunate to visit some of the work I studied in person on trips to Europe as well. In addition, I received my Masters of Art degree in Visual Culture, focusing on Art History and Costume from New York University. I worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during my time in graduate school.

I am looking forward to helping your student reach their full potential and overcome any doubts they may have toward learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I first learned how to play Chess from my grandfather. Ever since then, I have loved it! I used to teach Chess to 5 year old students at a local public school. I love teaching Chess to kids because I am always surprised by how quickly they pickup the game. They have such a thirst for learning and I teach the rules of Chess in a fun way they can relate to. I have also taught my husband how to play and we play regularly.

Sewing

I own a sewing machine and use it daily at home to create my own line of accessories. I have a certificate from Parsons in Fashion Design.
