My name is Liana and I have a background in both accounting and sewing. I started off my professional career as a Certified Public Accountant. After a few years working as a CPA, my friend taught me to sew and I decided to go back to school for fashion design. I loved being in school and learned everything I could about fashion and sewing in school: drawing, sewing, pattern-making and draping. I tutored at FIT in my last years because I enjoy sharing my passion with other students. I also currently teach sewing at my neighborhood girls club and would love to tutor you! Below are the subjects I can tutor in and some information about my experience in each subject:
I learned Photoshop when I was a student at FIT. I struggled with it when I first started using it because it is a difficult program to use. However, now that I have learned it, I would love to share my knowledge with you! I use Photoshop for everything including making my portfolio and making prints for fabric design.
I have been using Microsoft ever since I was a child and know it like the back of my hands. I worked with the software for school, my personal life and professionally. It is a powerful program that can do everything you need. I can teach it because I have a lot of experience with Microsoft.
I went to school for accounting and I got my CPA on the first try. I was in the public accounting sector for 4 years before I left to become a fashion designer. However, I still love accounting and do part time bookkeeping. I find accounting very exciting and interesting.
After attending FIT for fashion design, I started sewing for a well known costume shop and taking commissions to sew for people. I have gained experience sewing many different garments and accessories.
I love all the subjects that I teach. I have tons of patience and love to share my passions with my students. Please contact me to learn about any of the exciting subjects and to schedule lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I use Photoshop daily for making my website, editing photographs and flyers.
I received a bachelor of fine arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology for fashion design. In the fashion design degree, you are required to know how to sew. I have been sewing professionally for 3 years now. I have been working as a custom fashion and costume designer since May 2016, making anything that people want from bridal to aerial silks costumes. I also currently teach sewing in the Lower East Side Girls Club.
