About Ari

Hi! I am a graduate of Connecticut College as a Mathematics and Computer Science double major. I currently work as a software engineer during the week and tutor during weekends.

As a software engineer and Computer Science major, I am well-versed in programming knowledge. I know many programming languages including Ruby, Python, Javascript, Java, C, C++, Perl, and Matlab. If you are interested in building your own website I am also happy to teach you HTML and CSS, or even Ruby on Rails. Whether you just want to learn the basics or gain more advanced skills, I am here to help.

I also have a great love for mathematics. While in college, I tutored middle school students weekly with a focus on math homework. I later graduated with Mathematics as one of my two majors. My specialties include algebra, calculus, and discrete mathematics. I enjoy tutoring students at all levels.

Mathematics was one of my two majors in College and experience in tutoring middle school and high school students.

I can tutor students learning many levels of algebra from the very basics all the way up to the hard stuff (like abstract algebra and group theory). I also am a skilled calculus tutor from the pre-calculus through calculus 2 levels.

Algebra and calculus are where I have the most mathematic tutoring experience but I have a diverse set of mathematical knowledge so feel free to let me know what exactly you are studying and I can tell you my experience level. If you're learning something funky in a math class, chances are I can help.

I work as a software engineer 5 days a week and tutor students in programming on weekends. Professionally, I write mostly in Ruby and Javascript but as a tutor I also love sharing my skills in Python, Java, C, C++, Perl, and Matlab. I also have a love for computer theory and algorithms, which grew as a Computer Science major. I am programming every single day and am a great teacher for students beginning to learn programming or starting to build a website.

I am available after 9 on weekdays and many ours during weekend days. Please reach out if you are interested in a great math or computer science tutor!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Science

Computer Science was one of my two majors at Connecticut College, with my CS GPA of 3.97. There, I helped CS students struggling on assignments. The CS major required programming, computer theory, and algorithms classes. Today I am a professional software engineer where I put these principles to practice every day.

CSS

I started learning CSS, SASS, and SCSS years ago while studying to be a computer science major. Many of the tests I took while studying were to create pixel perfect matches of given html pages using CSS. We only passed the tests if the pages were a perfect match down to the pixel. I got a perfect match for every test. Today I am a software engineer where I use CSS every day to make our pages look exactly how the designers want it.

JavaScript

I started learning Javascript while studying to be a computer science major at Connecticut College. As a web developer I spend many hours working on both the back-end and front-end of our application.
The pages of our app are very interactive so I work with Javascript every day to make it happen. That involves ajax, jquery and a whole lot of Javascript in general. I also love making browser-friendly games with Javascript in my free time.

JQuery

I am very skilled with Javascript in general and also have a lot of experience with JQuery. I am currently a software engineer and spend a lot of time working on the front-end of our application. I use a lot of JQuery to manipulate the DOM to make our pages interactive. I also like to use JQuery to build Chrome plugins designed to manipulate html pages because there is endless fun with JQuery.

Logic

I have always been a very logical thinker. I graduated college as a Mathematics and Computer Science double major. All of those classes, including discrete mathematics, algorithms, and many programming classes, require a strong logical way of thinking. Today I work as a software engineer where I used that part of my brain every day.

Python

Python was the first programming language I learned many years ago. I used Python for most projects in college while studying to be a Computer Science major. Today I am a software engineer, where the API I work on is written entirely in Python so I am programming in Python most days out of the week.

Ruby

I graduated as a computer science major last year. I started learning ruby a few years ago and picked it up very quickly. I currently am a professional web developer where I work on a Ruby on Rails application 5 days a week. Ruby is my favorite programming language to teach because it is fun, powerful, and a great first language to learn.
