Prior to coaching at IU, I worked as the chorus master for the Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival (2010-2012) training opera choruses for Bizet's Carmen and Verdi's La Traviata. I believe in healthy organic singing!! I view singing as a process and an exciting journey with results that don't happen over night. As a voice instructor, I consider myself a mentor, technician, and a pedagogue. Unlike many in the field, I understand appropriate repertoire for my students and am also sensitive to vocal injuries. I believe a great voice teacher will seek to edify the voice and not ignorantly damage it. I also create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning! Everyone should have the opportunity to confidently make mistakes and learn from them.
Please do not hesitate to contact me! I teach from my home around the Manhattan School of Music. Voice is my passion and people can immediately sense this when they work with me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an M.M. Piano Performance degree from South Carolina and I have been employed as a pianist for various opera companies for the last two years. I have a passion for teaching students of all ages! I will be the first to say that piano lessons require hard work and plenty of daily practice in order for any results to occur. Learning to play this instrument is a process and should be thought of as a journey! I spent last summer in Germany studying with some of the world's leading collaborative pianists and enjoy sharing my experiences and what I've learned with my students.
I have an M.M. Voice Performance degree from Indiana University and have been singing professionally for a few years now. I absolutely love teaching voice and am deeply fascinated with vocal pedagogy. My goal is to make all of my students feel comfortable enough to be themselves and make mistakes so genuine learning can occur. I am very sensitive to vocal health issues and building up the voice with the vocalises and exercises that are appropriate for each student.
