I recently finished graduate school in Minneapolis, where I studied urban planning and affordable housing finance and policy. I made the move to New York earlier this summer to join family and love living here! I love learning new things and have always had a passion for languages, culture, and even technology! I have studied French since high school and then again in college, where I studied abroad and worked with refugees in southwestern France. I further improved my language skills when I moved to France after undergrad for a teaching gig in a rural northern town.
It was there that I realized I loved teaching as much as I love learning! I enjoy helping others improve their language skills so they can better communicate, find a job, or simply ace a test. It's also fun for me to plan lessons that will intrigue my students and talk about culture in addition to grammar and vocabulary.
I spent a year in France teaching English to high school students. I understand how to lesson plan, adjust our study sessions to fit your needs, and prepare you with writing and conversation skills.
I have spent almost half my life learning the French language! I studied French in undergrad, studying abroad and working as a French tutor for other students. I know what it is like to learn French and can adjust our lessons to fit your needs. I can work with you to learn basic grammar and vocabulary, or if you'd like, spend the whole hour in conversation!
I've taken several GIS courses throughout undergrad and during graduate school. I have worked as a GIS tutor for students in land use courses during undergrad. I can teach you not only how to make a good looking map, but how to do simple spatial analysis as well!
My undergraduate degree is in political science, where I specialized in comparative politics and global and local social justice movements.
I can't wait to help you gain knowledge and improve your skills, whether English, French, map-making, or political science! I look forward to working with you and hearing from you soon. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an undergraduate degree in French, where I took specialty courses in world health, French for the business professional, and medieval literature.
After graduating, I lived in a remote area of France for a year where I spoke nothing but French with native speakers. I taught English, so I have experience in the classroom and preparing lessons.
I also have extensive experience tutoring languages -- both French and English during undergrad and the years since.
