About Olivia

Hello, parents and students! I'm Olivia, and I want to work with you to meet your testing or writing goals. I will go above and beyond just teaching the material to make sure that each student I work with truly gets an experience individualized to their needs. Together, we will work on making a plan of attack to effectively and strategically improve the areas that need help, from creating a study schedule, to working on pacing and test strategy, to brainstorming, outlining, writing, and editing.

About Me:

I graduated in 2015 with honors from Washington University in St. Louis, one of the top 15 schools in the country. Throughout my undergrad, I worked as a writing tutor and a standardized testing coach, helping college and high school students find the right words for their essays and get the scores they wanted on their tests. Upon graduation, I immediately accepted a job in innovation consulting, where I help fortune 500 companies figure out what to make next. My background in consulting has enlightening my approach to tutoring, making me even more strategic when it comes to solving problems. Much like the clients I work with professionally, each of my students presents unique problems that we can tackle with a good plan and a great strategy.

My Method:

Both writing and test taking can be frustrating if you have no idea how to improve, or even if you don't know where to begin. However, both stem from systematic principles that, when understood and properly applied, will make the process easy, and hopefully, fun! When it comes to standardized testing, It's not about intuition; it's about knowing the right tricks to understand how to effectively navigate the test itself. Writing college essays is a similar feat, and I pride myself on my ability to help students take disorganized thoughts and distill them into clear paragraphs and sharp articulation of ideas.

Why Me:

I LOVE tutoring. Nothing gives me more joy than helping someone else achieve their goals. And because I want you to succeed, and I'm here to not only be your tutor, but also your advocate. I have a very positive personality and I try to make the process of tutoring just as enjoyable as it is educational. I will always go above and beyond to make sure that you're getting the results you want. I also want to work with you regardless of age, gender, ability, or native English speaking status. In fact, I've spent a lot of time tutoring second language speakers in writing, as well as students suffering from ADHD and dyslexia. No matter your background or ability, together we can make a plan to achieve your goals.

My Scores:

SAT Verbal: 800
SAT Math: 760
SAT Writing: 800
ACT: 34
GRE Verbal: 168
GRE Math: 166

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have been a graphic designer for the past 6 years. My minor in college was in Communication Design, and I took classes such as Communication Design I and II, Theory of Type, and Advertising I and II. In terms of professional work, I interned at Cosmopolitan magazine, which exclusively uses InDesign to lay out and design the entire magazine. I've created professional programs and brochures for events at Wash U and a theater company called New Swan Shakespeare in InDesign. Additionally, I worked at an industrial advertising firm in St. Louis called Gorilla 76, where we used InDesign to lay out client documents and white papers.

Best tutor I've ever worked with - can't go wrong — Working with Olivia was absolutely incredible. As someone who has always been a self-teacher, it's always been a struggle for me to find others who I can truly learn from – whether that be teachers, friends, parents, or other tutors. Olivia's impressive test scores were enough to prove to me how intelligent she was, but more importantly where she was most gifted was with her interpersonal skills a ...
