CUNY - Hunter (MEd)
Hello students and parents!
I am a former public school math teacher (6 years) and a private tutor (over 10 years) for middle / high school math. My mantra is that students have fun when they are learning, and I make sure to personalize math to your student. From basketball to TV show analogies, I have the tricks up my sleeve to ensure that learning content is attainable for your student, and gaining confidence and feeling smart is equally as important.
A bit more about my teaching career - I started my career teaching English as a Foreign Language at a government school on a year abroad in Thailand. I loved teaching so much that upon my return to the US, I received my masters in education at CUNY - Hunter whilst teaching middle school and high school in Manhattan. I continued to teach (Math, Special Education were my specialties) and become the director of Special Education & mentored young teachers at my school through the NewVisions Urban Teacher Residency program. I consistently grew my students' test scores (most notably in Algebra I - NY State exams; Common Core Algebra & Geometry) both in and out of the classroom & tutoring. I have taught both 8th grade Math and High School math (CC Algebra; Geometry; Alg II / Trig) (in a public school classroom). In addition, I have privately tutored 4th grade, 6th - 8th grade, and HS math (CC Algebra; Geometry; Alg II / Trig) privately.
I fully believe that it's my enthusiasm and spirit that inspires students to learn, and my emphasis on growing their confidence, just as much as their skill set that makes them successful. I have been with the families I tutored for over 3 years and am looking to grow my relationships this year. I look forward to hearing from you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
