About Shri

Hi!

I am someone who believes learning and teaching are worthy lifetime pursuits. I've always been passionate about sharing knowledge and insights with others and find it incredibly rewarding to do so.

I am currently a third year student at SUNY College of Optometry. Prior to that, I graduated from University of California Davis with a degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior in 2014. During my tenure at both UC Davis and SUNY Optometry, I have tutored various subjects including math, english, chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology, physics, anatomy, and neuroanatomy. I have also tutored elementary through high school students on various subjects for some time in India.

I also spent one year working as a highly rated instructor with Kaplan Test Prep to teach the admission exam for both optometry and dental school (OAT and DAT). Having scored in the 99.9% percentile for the OAT and having taught and tutored for that test specifically, I am confident in my abilities to break down both the expansive framework and detailed expectations necessary to do well on any standardized exam. Additionally, teaching to a wide variety of students in multiple locations across California and New York has allowed me to relay information in a very personalized and effective manner.

My personal philosophy towards teaching emphasizes learning to learn. I believe that as students are able to identify and understand their own personal learning styles and barriers, they can develop learning skills that will last them a lifetime and can be applied to many subjects. In addition to instructional tutoring, I have helped students to develop study plans, assisted in developing powerful application essays, motivated them to embrace different formats of learning, and helped them to identify their own strengths and weakness.

While the majority of my tutoring experience is with college and adult students, I am quite good with children (ask my pediatric patients!) and I am a believer that it is never too early to become an effective learner.

I am looking forward to meeting and working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Friendly warm and an intelligent tutor!!!! — We went over a number of statistics concepts, pedigree problems, and some genetics terms I was having difficulty with on my own, and he was able to clarify everything in simple terms and helpful analogies... Shri provided some extra notes and videos to help out as well! Highly recommend him~ ...
