About Michael

Hello! My name is Michael! I'm a current student at Fordham University in New York City! At school I'm a double major in American Studies and Journalism with a special concentration in Power, Politics, and Institutions. That's a mouthful, but basically it means that I'm a wiz at American history and English. I've tutored in both of these subjects before and, as of Spring 2016, have even worked in the Education Department at the New-York Historical Society, doing research and helping run museum education programs.

Learning has been, and hopefully will always be, an essential part of both my personal and professional life. Naturally, then, I love nothing more than helping others learn and love to learn. School is hard! I've done a lot of it, and sometimes a helping (and learned) hand is all you need to succeed when academics become a bit of a challenge! I'd love to help with that.

Outside of my course of study and in terms of testing qualifications for English and History, during high school I received a score of 5 on both of the AP Literature and Composition and Language and Composition exams, as well as a perfect score of 36/36 on the ACT Reading section with scores of 34/36 on the writing and english sections. In History, I received a 5 on both the AP World and American History exams, as well as a 100% on the US History Regents.

If you're looking for some help in history and/or English, look no further than me! Please don't hesitate to contact me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I received a 5 on both the AP Literature and Composition and Language and Composition exams. I received a perfect score of 36/36 on the ACT reading and writing sections.

American History

At Fordham University, I study American History and Politics, and in high school I received a 5 on the AP U.S. History exam, as well as a 100% on both the U.S. History and Government Regents.

College Counseling

As a sophomore at Fordham University and, thus, a recent student of the college admissions process, I can offer good advice and strategy on this difficult and at times painful process. While I ended up at Fordham, I was waitlisted at both Harvard and Columbia, and was also accepted to the Honors College at Boston University. I've certainly gone through enough of a rigorous admissions process to council most people who are currently going through the same thing.

General Music

I am a pianist and percussionist of 12 years and received a score of 5 on the AP Music Theory exam.

Public Speaking

I have amassed a total of 6 years of work in the theatre, working as an actor, musical director, and stage manager. All of these positions more than qualify me tutoring in the subject of public speaking, as well as in leadership and collaboration.

Regents

As a graduate of a NYS High School, I've taken all of the required NYS regents. Even more, because my average score on the exams was over 95, I was given the privilege of graduating with the highest possible high school degree in New York - the Advanced Regents Diploma with Distinction.

Social Studies

As an American Studies major at Fordham University, I am well versed in the realm of social studies. In short, as an American Studies major I study American society and politics through the lens of all of the social sciences - namely history, economics, sociology, and political science.

Writing

Outside of studying journalism and history (two writing intensive courses of study) at Fordham University and in regards to testing, in high school I received a score of 5/5 on both the AP Literature and Composition and Language and Composition exams, a perfect score of 36/36 on the ACT reading and writing sections, and a 100% on both the NYS Regents and Common Core English exams.
