I love words. And I love transmitting my passion for words into simple and easy to understand lessons for students of all ages.
My students come from varied backgrounds and they are of all ages, from kindergarten to high school and college to adult learners seeking to improve their writing. At our first meeting, we'll discuss who you are, what your goals and needs are, and outline a plan for working together to improve your skills.
My background includes teaching writing to elementary school students in a Harlem charter school as part of an after-school program; teaching adults from ages 19 through 60 plus at a local college; teaching a continuing education class in memoir writing, a graduate/undergraduate class in magazine writing, and using photography to teach writing in many public schools around the city. I have extensive experience in writing and editing papers, reviewing homework, discussing verb usage, and the importance of words and language in everyday, educational, and professional use.
Popular culture, including the arts, is partnered with words to make our lessons a dynamic learning experience.
Interested in creative writing? I can work with your professional work in terms of writing and editing any type of writing material, from a letter to a brochure, to a script or written publication. I've edited publications ranging from a simple brochure to an annul report.
Struggling to format with Microsoft Word? Part of the writing experience is formatting work, whether your work is in a notebook or on a computer.
My educational background includes a CUNY BA, where most of my time was spent at Hunter College. My professional background includes several published books and contributing to hundreds of publications.
My approach is dynamic and holistic and includes writing, organization, grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and content. Public speaking is another specialty of mine and I can also teach Microsoft Word.
I look forward to hearing from you and discussing your goals - and improving your writing! I love words. And I love transmitting my passion for words into simple and easy to understand lessons for students of all ages.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an active public speaker, I have worked with students of all ages on how to speak in public. This includes everything from posture to confidence, to preparation, and how to engage an audience. My speaking experience includes teaching in front of students for more than 10 years; serving as a commencement speaker; speaking in front of my community and my local community board; and teaching the how-tos on presentations for all ages.
