About Cale

Hey everyone. I'm a fourth year medical student at Columbia who is passionate about tutoring. As a dual pre-med and theater major, I've learned that the best learning cross discipline lines. Often, the most effective teaching combines creativity, reasoning, and a positive competitive spirit.

My teaching style has been described by past students as "dynamic," "engaging," and "down-to-earth." My foremost goal is to keep you engaged during a lesson--the learning will naturally follow. I treat each session as a collaboration, rather than a one-way street. Here's to us working together soon! Cheers.

Briefly about my academic credentials:

Biology: I am a fourth year medical student with an extensive, working knowledge of the human body. I also scored a 5 on my AP biology test, 7 on IB biology SL, 400 on SAT II biology, and maintained an A average in undergraduate biology work.

English/Writing: I scored a 5 on AP English literature and on AP English Composition. In addition, I scored 780 on SAT Reading. Writing is a particular joy of mine. I enjoy proofreading essays (academic and admissions) to bring out the unique voice of each student writer. As a theater studies major, I graduated with distinction in playwriting--and my senior thesis won the 2013 Reynolds Price Award for best original script.

MCAT: I scored a 38 on my MCAT: 14 physical sciences, 12 biological sciences, and 12 on reading comprehension. In addition, I am even better equipped now after three years of medical school to tutor the MCAT biology section.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

SAT Reading

I have an excellent understanding of how the SAT section works. I scored a 780 when I took it. Furthermore, I've tutored reading comprehension for SAT students before, and it's one of my favorite subjects to teach.

Theatre

I majored in theater studies at Duke University, where I directed three full length productions and performed in nine others. I graduated with distinction in playwriting, where my thesis won the Reynolds Price award for best original script of the year.
