Hi - my name is Allie! I am currently a graduate student at Columbia Teachers College earning a dual degree in elementary general and special education. This year, I was a student teacher in a first grade class in Brooklyn and a fourth grade class in Manhattan. These experiences provided me with several experiences teaching elementary school students in various subjects.
There is nothing more rewarding to me than teaching a child to see a confusing concept in a new way to help them have an "AHA moment". Each child learns in a unique way, so I feel it is important to try multiple strategies of teaching new material in order for each student to get what he or she needs to succeed. I love teaching and learning from students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
