I am currently a middle school/high school teacher who teaches math at a charter school in Manhattan. I've worked for Kaplan in the past teaching in different test prep programs throughout the Bronx and Manhattan. It is my passion as an educator to teach students how to think through problems, concentrating primarily on the process of problem solving which is applicable to multiple disciplines while seeking to help students find structure throughout different types of math problems. I live in Manhattan and still am currently seeking my masters with a focus in learning how to help students who may process information differently than others become proficient in math.
When working with a student, I believe that a very important component is to encourage learning over just getting the right answer. True learning takes place often through making mistakes and understanding why a particular solution was incorrect, thus allowing similar mistakes to be avoided. In my experience, students who are comfortable making many mistakes often learn very quickly so I tried to adapt this approach in all of my tutoring sessions.
I am a strong and passionate chess player who coaches a team that competes in city and state championships (and often wins their section!).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
