Princeton University (Molecular Biology)
I earned my undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology (with a certificate in Neuroscience) at Princeton University. As an AP Scholar with Distinction, I received the scores of 5 (on the Biology, AB Calculus, Latin, and English language tests) and 4 (on World History and English literature tests) in high school. On the SATs, I scored in the 99th percentile for Critical Reading and in the 97th percentile for Math.
My first experience with tutoring was in fifth grade, when my sister patiently helped me understand the difference between direct and indirect objects. My goal is to do for my students what my sister did for me, so that they can have many AHA moments of their own.
I have had the pleasure of tutoring and mentoring elementary and high school students since I was a junior in high school. I have tutored students in subjects as diverse as Latin, English, Mathematics, and Biology. I specialize in SAT and Advanced Placement examination preparations, as well as in general subject/homework help.
My general approach to tutoring has been to have the student teach me the subject first. This accomplishes two main goals: 1) explaining a topic to another person helps a student remember the details better, while boosting the student's confidence, and 2) the process allows me to assess the gaps in the student's knowledge of the subject matter. My approach is adjusted to fit the needs of each of my students. I earned my undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology (with a certificate in Neuroscience) at Princeton University. Blessing took the time needed to assess my daughter's needs in the subjects being tutored. She set out a plan for upcoming tutoring sessions that will allow for my daughter to get the most out of them. Blessing was patient and communicated with my daughter in a way that allowed my daughter to understand the subject matter. This was the first session but I already feel it was beneficial.
Blessing was extremely knowledgeable about the ISEE exam and was very patient with my daughter. She gave her some suggestions and new strategies that can help her with the test. I strongly recommend working with Blessing :).
Our first session we did a review of a test. She gave me pointers & lesson plan going forward. Being that she was in a similar program she have a better understanding
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I help students improve their understanding of algebra 1 topics and their performance in tests.
I have worked with elementary school students individually and in small groups to help them understand math concepts and do their homework.
As a private elementary school and high school alum, I have experience taking different levels of the ISEE and scoring in the 99th percentile on them. I have also worked with students in test preparation, giving them confidence and boosting their scores.
I have tutored middle and high schoolers in math and standardized test taking.
When I did the SATs I scored in the 99th percentile for Reading.
I have always excelled in standardized testing (getting mainly in the 99 percentiles) and have test taking strategies which help improve scores.
