University of California, Santa Barbara (Chinese)
I have studied Chinese literature at University of California, Santa Barbara. During that time, I sometimes utilized my time volunteering at Chinese school on weekends. I taught little kids and adults Chinese characters as well as pronouncing them. In college, I took a class to learn language contact and how languages interact and interfere with each other. Also, I worked with my Chinese professors to create exams for Chinese classes.
What I like about tutoring is that one can focus on individuals instead of a large group. I like to be able to have enough time for students to absorb the materials and move at their own pace.
I had volunteered in Chinese school on weekend when I was at UCSB.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
