About Dara

Student success is based on their ability to understand language and effectively express themselves, whether it's in the classroom or on the playground. I specialize in working with special education students with learning disabilities, yet this also translates into a well-rounded tutor that can break down complex information/concepts/lessons for most subjects making everything more easy to understand! I currently work in a middle school but also have experience with preschool, elementary, and high school.

Working with kids has always been a passion of mine. My strength as an educator lies in my ability to connect with kids through humor and motivating activities but keeping the focus on working hard and keeping organized to see the results that they want. The students that I see daily can attest to that!

I specialize in speech & language, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, English (ELA), test prep, and executive functioning/study skills. I am also available for private speech language therapy services for all ages.

I am a licensed, certified speech language pathologist with experience working with students K-12 with language learning disabilities, speech sounds/articulation, ADHD/ADD, Autism, Fluency disorders, and reading disabilities. My specialty with private speech therapy has been working wth adolescents and adults who stutter.

During the school year I am available Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday from 4:30-9:00pm, Thursday/Friday from 4-9 pm.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

Dara, M.S. CCC-SLP is an ASHA certified, licensed speech language pathologist with a NYS TSSLD. I took a course during grad school on language learning disabilities that focused on behavioral issues that may affect academic performance (eg ADHD/ADD). I also have used meditation with some of my students as a way to increase awareness and concentration.
