Over a 12 year period, I have lived in several countries in Europe (UK, France and Spain) and am completely fluent in 3 languages. I have a Master's in Education in ESL/Foreign Languages with a concentration in Childhood and Adolescent Education, and am also a NYS certified educator. I have also taken several Special Ed courses. In my teaching career, I have taught in the top private and public/charter schools (grades 6-12), dual language programs exposing me to many subjects in elementary schools, universities as well as language schools. I am now concentrating on private or small group tutoring. My clientele varies greatly in age from Pre-K to college or grad students and adults. I customize all lessons to their specific needs (unless there is a preset curriculum determined by the school) and can teach all levels. I have almost 20 years' experience so am uniquely qualified.
I am willing to commute providing it is within a reasonable distance. I also see students in my home - but not until I know them and we are all comfortable. My rates are negotiable depending on the number of hours, level requested (I also prepare students for standardized tests and coach business English to groups of Executives) and look forward to helping you with tutoring.
My French is native proficiency and I was professionally trained. I also taught in several French cities to college students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a certified teacher, I have taught students (K-6) in various schools around the city. More recently, I have been teaching in after-school programs and have substituted mostly in private schools. I have also been tutoring ages 5-12 in various subjects for the past few years so I am familiar with the curriculum.
As a former kindergarten and elementary teacher in a dual language, my responsibilities included teaching writing: print, cursive and capitals. Children also needed to understand the difference between common and proper nouns and when capitals were used. Emphasis was given on penmanship. Writing was studied in conjunction with reading skills.
I have been professionally trained in the art of public speaking. I have been giving both high school and college students seminars on the topic for many years. Most professions demand that you speak to a group and learn to overcome your fears. There are very specific strategies involving preparation, organization, practice and focus (amongst others) in order to be successful in public speaking.
