About Alana

Hi! I am about to be a graduate of Pace University School of Education, and will be receiving my Master's in Early Childhood Education and Special Education (Birth-8 years old). I absolutely love children and seeing them explore and gain knew skills is such an amazing experience for me. Children are capable of more knowledge than we realize and I love getting the opportunity to be there to help facilitate this learning! I was recently a student teacher at an elementary school in the financial district and it was an amazing experience. Getting to create lessons and fun activities for the children to encourage them to learn, and love learning gave me the confidence to be a better teacher. One of my strengths as a teacher is working one-on-work with students. Each child has their own learning style and I make it a priority to find out what this is. I utilize their strengths to help improve their weaknesses and make their learning experience as enjoyable as possible!

I have previously worked with children from ages 1-13, each having their own learning style. Literacy is the foundation in every school discipline so I know the importance of teaching grammar, reading, writing and vocabulary. I have had the opportunity to teach a reading unit which focuses on many different literacy skills that the children should acquire. The activities and lesson I create are fun and engaging which will make the children want to learn and read.

Being an early childhood educator, phonics is a very important part of the curriculum. Students at this age are just beginning to learn about letter sounds, and words. I have experience working with children of all different developmental levels when it comes to learning phonics and beginning to read and write. My undergraduate degree is is Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences so this has also given me ample knowledge about phonics and helping children listen and sound out words.

Working with children is my passion, and I take so much pride in helping them reach their full potential. I help children realize their strengths so they can develop the skills to be successful learners!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
