I'm quite enthusiastic about learning Math and because of this I have a natural tendency to share this enthusiasm with others. This is why teaching is something that I am truly passionate about and I have had many opportunities as a teacher.
I was a teaching assistant for two undergraduate courses: Number Theory and Discrete Mathematics. My duties involved giving weekly tutorials and designing and evaluating homework and quizzes. I have also taught underprivileged high school students as part of an NGO. I taught math, computer science and english speaking skills. Currently I am working as a Math instructor at an after school teaching centre. I get to work with kids from kindergarten to 8th grade where we solve fun problems together and promote an interest in Math.
I am a graduate student who will start their PhD from University of Maryland in Applied Mathematics this fall. I completed my MSc in Applied Mathematics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in Switzerland. I did my Bachelor in Science, majoring in Mathematics, from Lahore University of Management Science in Pakistan. I'm well acquainted with most of the topics in Math such as Calculus, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Multivariate Calculus and SAT/GRE quantitative section.
My goal as a teacher is not merely to teach facts and formulas but rather to help the student develop the intuition behind them. I value critical thinking and problem solving skills and that is what I would like to teach my students as well. These are skills that are highly valued today even outside the classroom.
I have a very flexible schedule so I can even meet students with a tight schedule. I'm quite enthusiastic about learning Math and because of this I have a natural tendency to share this enthusiasm with others. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
